The term "bhikshu" refers to Shakya's son, Nye-ga, or anyone else like him. The term "bhikshu" refers to someone of this religious order. The term "clothing" refers to any of the three: the sanghati (僧衣), the upper robe, or the lower skirt. The term "giving" means giving without asking for anything in return. The term "after that" means at another time. The term "without permission" means without asking. The term "using" means wearing. The term "committing an offense" means the same as before. Here, the root downfall is specifically defined as follows: If a bhikshu gives a sanghati, upper robe, or lower skirt to another bhikshu permanently, and then later uses it without the other's permission and without making the other bhikshu happy, it constitutes a root downfall of causing harm after giving. The agent here is: the bhikshu's clothes are used without permission. In this case, the root downfall is constituted by five factors: it belongs to a bhikshu, it is the bhikshu's clothing itself, excluding other utensils, it was given away by oneself, one uses it without the other's permission, and one uses it without making the other bhikshu happy. If these factors are not complete, then blame is assigned accordingly. The downfall of causing harm after giving is the sixty-eighth. Commentary on the Sutra of Individual Liberation, Volume Sixteen. The basis for the downfall of slander is: The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in the bamboo grove of Rajagriha (位于今天印度比哈尔邦), in the place of Kalandaka. At that time, the venerable Kashyapa was staying near a stone-walled pond on Mount Gridhrakuta (鹫峰山) in Rajagriha. The bhikshuni Utpalavarna (莲花色), after bowing at the feet of the Bhagavan and the elder bhikshus, went to where the venerable Kashyapa was, and upon arriving, bowed her head at the feet of the venerable Kashyapa, and sat down in front of him to listen to the Dharma. At that time, the two bhikshus, Mitra and Bhumija, found an old cloth for wiping, and these two had grudges against the venerable Kashyapa from lifetime to lifetime, and therefore were always striving to find fault. So, these two took the old cloth for wiping and went to the stone-walled pond to quarrel.

After placing it, it was dried in the sun. At that time, the edge of the clothes of the venerable Gyadbu Nor was blown by the wind and touched the head of the Bhikshuni Utpala color. When the friend saw this, he said to Salaje: Salaje, Gyadbu Nor and Bhikshuni Utpala color together committed the Sanghavasesa offense of physical contact, let's go and tell the monks. The two of them went and said these words to the monks. The monks said: Venerable ones, are you two putting gods and humans together, or are you putting sentient beings in hell, hungry ghosts, and animals together? Why do you slander the Arhat Bhikshus, who are meditators of the eight liberations, who are the supreme manifestations of human supernatural powers, with unfounded Sanghavasesa offenses? At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, what did you see in those two? How did you see it? Where did you see it? Why did you two go there and see these things? Please discuss and understand it well and thoroughly. After many monks had discussed and investigated it well and thoroughly, the two of them said: Venerable ones, the venerable Gyadbu Nor, and the Bhikshuni Utpala color together did not commit the Sanghavasesa offense of physical contact. Like this, we two spoke because of greed for the venerable Gyadbu Nor, we spoke because of hatred, ignorance, and fear. Monks, why do those monks with few desires rebuke those pure and undefiled monks, and slander them with unfounded Sanghavasesa offenses? To insult, to abandon, to speak harsh words? At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, as before, said again: Monk, if someone is angry and hateful, and slanders a pure and undefiled monk with an unfounded Sanghavasesa offense, he commits a Patayantika offense. The place where it happened was Rajagriha (now Rajgir), the people were the friend and Salaje, and the affliction was anger.

To grasp at the untrue. The offense is to falsely accuse a bhikkhu of a saṃghādisesa offense without basis. What is meant by "bhikkhu"? It refers to a friend or one born from the earth, or anyone like that. "Angry" means disturbed. "Having become hateful" means having become displeased, not clearly understanding the disturbance. "Pure bhikkhu" refers to the venerable Gyabu Nor, or anyone like that. "To the innocent" means innocent of that matter. "Without basis" means without the three bases: the basis of seeing, the basis of hearing, and the basis of doubt. "With a saṃghādisesa offense" refers to any of the thirteen, which is spoken of as the sound of Dharma in what is not Dharma. "If accused" means if making an accusation. "It is a downfall" means as before. Here, the actual downfall is distinguished: if a bhikkhu intends to accuse, changes his perception of a bhikkhu, and clearly states the accusation with a saṃghādisesa, or even slightly utters it, then it becomes the actual downfall of accusing. The agent of this is: the one who intends to accuse, and the saṃghādisesa offense. This has five branches that become an actual downfall: intending to accuse, the other person being a bhikkhu, changing perception, the saṃghādisesa offense, and clearly or slightly uttering it. If one of these is missing, then blame is appropriate as the case may be. This is the sixty-ninth downfall of accusing. The basis of the downfall of going with a woman: The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Rajagriha, there was a man named Tagapa Jaje. After taking the daughter of a Tagapa of Shravasti as his wife, he repeatedly beat her with fists and slaps. At another time, Tagapa Jaje drank alcohol in a shop, and after getting drunk, he went back to his own house. He beat the woman severely and fell asleep. When the woman saw that Tagapa had fallen asleep, she opened the first door.
