The offense is hiding the belongings of a renunciate. Among them, what is called a bhikshu? It is Shakya's son, Nanda, or anyone else like him. Bhikshu, bhikshuni, shramanera, or shramanerika refers to this bhikshu. Bowl refers to the bowl itself. Robe refers to any of the seven types of robes. Net refers to the container for the bowl. Bowl refers to the eating bowl. Belt refers to the strap, whip, belt, and string of straps. Any of the bhikshu's living utensils refers to any other than those. Hiding refers to oneself. Causing to hide refers to others. Except for such a condition means that hiding with the intention of benefiting, such a condition is established. Falling refers to the same as before. Among them, here the root downfall is distinguished: A bhikshu hides or causes to hide any of the living utensils of a bhikshu, such as the bowl, Dharma robe, net, bowl, belt, etc., belonging to this renunciate, except for hiding with the intention of benefiting, it will become the root of the downfall of hiding. The agent here is the thought of harboring malice, and any utensil of any renunciate. In this, through five limbs, it becomes a root downfall: the thought of harboring malice, this renunciate, the utensil, hiding or causing to hide, and except for the intention of benefiting. If those limbs are not complete, then they will be blamed accordingly. The downfall of hiding is the sixty-seventh. The basis for the downfall of living by giving is: The Buddha Bhagavan was staying in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. At that time, the venerable Charka, by completely pacifying all defilements, directly realized the state of an Arhat. The venerable Atunpa went to Kaushambi and felt depressed in his heart. Walking quickly and Nabso, the two were at the right time. Kawa and Nanda, the two were seated in the Sangha, at that time, the venerable Nanda became old and said to him:

Living together, and not listening to any attendants, at that time the clothes became dirty, but they could not be washed or mended. Thinking, 'Let's think of a way to deal with this.' So, he said to those living together and to the attendants, 'Children, I am old, these are yours.' Some were given the monastic skirt, some were given the upper garment, and some were given the lower skirt. Because of their own attachment, they carefully washed and mended those monastic robes. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda: 'Ananda, go and tell the monks, the Tathagata is going on a pilgrimage to the Kosala country. Whoever among you is willing to go on a pilgrimage to the Kosala country with the Tathagata, do the work of the monastic robes.' After the Venerable Ananda had announced this, those monks entrusted the monastic robes to their relatives. The relatives used those robes and then put them back in the box. After some time, when those monks returned, a householder invited the Buddha and the Sangha of monks to a funeral ceremony for someone who had suddenly passed away. They took those monastic robes, but seeing that the relatives were using them, they put them down and went wearing old monastic robes. The monks said to them, 'Venerable ones, didn't you entrust the monastic robes? Why did you come wearing the robes for the road?' They said, 'We entrusted them.' 'Then why don't you wear those?' They explained the situation in detail. Those monks with few desires rebuked them, saying, 'Why do monks give monastic robes to monks and then use them without asking afterwards?' They scolded and slandered them. The monks reported the situation to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, as before, again established the rule: 'Whatever monk, having given a monastic robe to a monk, then uses it without asking afterwards, commits a Patayantika offense.' The location was Shravasti, the people were the relatives, the affliction was insatiable greed, and the offense was using the monastic robe given to the monk without asking. This also applies to that.
