At that time, they reviled, saying, "You are like excrement!" They waved their arms, they spoke harsh words. The monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said, as before, "If any monk knowingly conceals a monk's offense of defeat, he commits an offense of expiation." The place was Shravasti (Jetavana). The person was Nanda. The affliction was remorse. The offense was knowingly concealing a monk's offense of defeat. Among these, "any monk" refers to Nanda, son of the Shakyas, or anyone like him. "Knowingly" means that he himself knows, or others have told him. "Of a monk" means belonging to this Dharma. "Offense of defeat" refers to two offenses of defeat: those that cause expulsion from the Sangha, and those that cause the Sangha to be incomplete. Why are these called offenses of defeat? Because of their nature and the cause of arising. "Concealing" means hiding. "Commits an offense of expiation" means as before. Here, the detailed explanation of the root offense is: if a monk knowingly conceals a monk's offense of defeat, and the offense of the Sangha remnant, then, unless there is discomfort, interruption of practice, interruption of celibacy, and fear of division of the Sangha, at the end of the first dawn of a day and night, the act of concealing the offense of defeat becomes the root offense. The actor of this offense is the one who is primarily aware that other monks have committed the offense of defeat, and the offense of the Sangha remnant. This offense has five branches that lead to the root offense: other monks committing the offense of defeat or the offense of the Sangha remnant, being aware of it, concealing it, and because of that, feeling discomfort, interruption of practice, interruption of celibacy, and unless there is concern about the division of the Sangha, the end of a day and night. If these branches are incomplete, then punishment is given as appropriate. The offense of expiation for concealing the offense of defeat is the fiftieth. Summary: Happiness, fire, desire, one who is not fully ordained, Dharma and speaking, virtue...

Coloring and changing colors, jewels and hot seasons, this is called the sixteenth. In short, the meaning and necessity of the word is the same as before. This sixteenth also shows the ten laws of downfall, namely: causing to fast, touching fire, changing intentions, sleeping with those who have not received full ordination, not abandoning views, following those who have been abandoned, collecting discarded items, wearing clothes that have not changed color, belonging to the basis of enjoyment, and the downfall of bathing. Among them, the cause of the downfall of causing to fast is: The Buddha, the World Honored One, was residing in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. A monk named 'Ashamed' who lived with Ananda, possessed shame, regret, restraint, and a desire to learn. As long as he did not know the misconduct, he lived with him. When he knew the misconduct, he began to live with the monks who naturally resided, going to prostrate at their feet three times a day according to the Buddha's teachings. Nida said to Ananda: Teacher, look at this Dharma, he is setting obstacles in front of the Buddha and the Sangha. I must also do some harm to him. Ananda said: This monk is a person with shame, regret, restraint, and a desire to learn, what harm can you do to him? He must be made to fast. This is possible. A householder invited Ananda and Nida to eat, and Nida thought: Today, this Dharma must be made to fast. When Dharma came to ask Ananda for permission to go begging, Ananda said to Dharma: Dharma, today a householder has invited us to eat, come and eat together. He said: I will go with my bowl and water filter. Nida said: What is the use of a bowl and water filter there? Wash the utensils there, pour out the water filter, and then come.

Then they both entered Shravasti together, and they both went to the street, sat in the shop, went to the house of the householder Neyedag, and came back after eating. After that, Ananda also went to the house of that householder and sat down to eat. Dharma said to Neyedag: Teacher, the shadow of the sun has fallen, it's time to go. Neyedag said: Everything is ready there, go there, there is nothing to do except eat, just go to the place where the shadow of the sun falls. Dharma stood up and began to measure the length of the shadow with his two feet, and Neyedag said: Fool, don't you believe our teachings at all? Do you think in your heart that we will eat at the wrong time? It is not comfortable for me to speak or sit with you, it is comfortable for me to speak or sit alone like this, you go. Dharma thought: If I had come with a bowl and a water filter, I could have gone to beg for food, but now there is nothing to do, he thought. Then he went to the temple, and as long as his body did not lose its luster, he devoted himself to good deeds, and when his body lost its luster, he put down his head and slept, and the monks said to him: O long-lived one, Dharma, if the food is someone else's, is the meal also someone else's? No matter how much you devote yourself to good deeds, you cannot do it, you have eaten so much food. Who ate it? Did you eat it? Did not eat. Why did he say this in such detail, those monks with few desires, why did the monks deliberately think, saying that they would cut off the monk's food, they scolded, rebuked, and gossiped, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, as before, which monk was looking for disputes, and in any case, thinking that he must find this monk's disputes, he said to the monk for this reason: O long-lived one, come here. Go to those houses, and there, however much food and drink you want, I will let you receive alms, after saying that, he did not let him receive alms.
