When most people did not generate faith, that venerable Black One became emaciated, weak, with a long neck, dry, and his body wasted away. He went for alms again and again. The gatekeeper noticed this sign and thought: Is this great black venerable one a flesh-eater? Everywhere the sound spread that the great black venerable one was a flesh-eater. In Shravasti (mnyan yod) there was a Brahmin who took a wife from the same caste, and he played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness. They had a daughter who was raised and grew up. Later, the Brahmin passed away, and the relatives decorated the hearse with blue, yellow, red, and white cloths, carried it to the cemetery, cremated it, and dug a pit. His wife and daughter both sat on one side in sorrow, looking at the face of the venerable great Black One. The daughter saw this and said: Mother, this great black venerable one is definitely staring at us like a blind crow. She also spoke harsh words. In Shravasti (mnyan yod), the Brahmin children heard that the great black venerable one was a flesh-eater, and in order to test him, they pretended that one of them had died, smeared him with sesame oil and ghee, placed him on the hearse, and prepared to carry him out of Shravasti (mnyan yod). At this time, the venerable great Black One was also going for alms in Shravasti (mnyan yod). He saw this and thought: How can I go into the city for alms for the sake of this insatiable belly? I should go back and eat these five foods. So he went back. Those people threw him in the cemetery, hid in the bushes and thickets, and wrapped their heads in cloths. At this time, a fox started to walk by. The venerable great Black One thought: If the fox eats these five foods, I will have no food, that will not do. Realizing this, he quickly went over. The Brahmin child was frightened and started to cry: He is eating me, he is eating me. Those Brahmin children took up sticks and quickly came out of hiding and said: Venerable one, you are...

Holding a fierce banner, do you particularly engage in these and similar cruel and sinful deeds? He replied, "What I do is eat human flesh." Those with fair faces asked, "Did you see me holding a weapon, cutting and eating human flesh?" They said, "Then, why did you come so quickly?" O fair-faced ones, I thought to myself, if this fox eats these five foods and comes specifically to eat my food, that would not be good. Realizing this, I came quickly. Holy one, did you partake of those five foods? I did not intend to eat human flesh, but everywhere it is rumored that the great black holy one eats human flesh. When they said this, the monks reported the matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One thought: If there is any slight fault, it is that the monks ate without being given permission. Therefore, the monks should be allowed to accept what is given, so that when eating, the giving itself becomes the witness. Thinking this, the Blessed One said: Therefore, the monks should be allowed to accept what is given before eating. There are five ways of giving. What are the five? Body giving to body, body associated with body, body giving to what is associated with body, what is associated with body giving to what is associated with body, and the ritual of placing is the fifth. There are five ways of allowing. What are the five? Allowing by fire, allowing by weapon, allowing by fingernail, allowing by teeth, and allowing by being bitten by parasites is the fifth. There are also five other ways of allowing. What are the five? Pulling out, removing, cutting, piercing, and not having the nature of a seed is the fifth. There are five ways of giving by placing on the hand. What are the five? Manshel (a type of container), bed, small bed, Thuba (a type of container), and the bowl itself is the fifth. The method of allowing by fire is to make a pile, touch it with fire two or three times, and everything will be allowed. With weapons and fingernails, it is done one by one. Laypeople distribute food unevenly, the monks should have them distribute it evenly. If they still distribute unevenly, the monks should wash their hands, accept what is given, and then distribute it. However, if it is still uneven, it should be distributed

The precious, the medium, and the inferior should be separated. The share for distributing food should be borne by the Khenpo and the Acharya, or those who are sitting as stewards. Those who have not left their seats should be allowed to give and receive the amount requested. Those who have not left their seats and are able to take the food do not need to be allowed to give and receive, but those who are not able should be allowed to give and receive again. Laypeople should also be allowed to participate in the distribution, with monks taking first and laypeople taking later. Whatever is taken from the monks, the giving and receiving is just that. Whatever is taken from the laypeople, they should be allowed to give and receive. First, the monks should give, then the laypeople should give, and then it should be distributed to the Sangha that day. If Brahmins and faithful householders offer ghee lamps and so on to the Sangha, it should be accepted, and after accepting it, it should be distributed to the Sangha. They should distribute the oily Dharma garments and so on with grass or leaves placed underneath. If holding those things and standing becomes tiring, they should be put down. When putting them down, if they roll, they should be placed on a base. The offered vessels should also be accepted and placed in a deep water pond for seven or eight days. If there are fish, turtles, frogs, or crocodiles killing their young, or if they have been completely licked clean by kingfishers and so on, then they can be placed in a suitable room and used. There are five situations in which it should be said that giving and receiving is not allowed: what are the five? Staying outside the boundary, from a place where it cannot be obtained, from under the arm, from behind, and giving and receiving with the palm of the hand covering it. There are five situations in which it should be said that giving and receiving is allowed: what are the five? The opposite of the previous situations. The Blessed One taught that it should be allowed to give and receive and then eat. The group of six monks ate both what was allowed to be given and received and what was not allowed to be given and received. Then, the monks with few desires said: The Blessed One taught that it should be allowed to give and receive and then eat, why do the monks allow giving and receiving
