Now, here is the distinction of the actual downfall. If a monk is not sick, has not worked, and has not traveled, and on one day, different patrons, either simultaneously or later, if he eats the gains of the five kinds of food without the gain of clothes or the price of clothes, then the second time he eats the gains, it becomes the basis for the downfall of eating again and again. The agent of this is: both invitations are on the same day, the patrons are different, and it is the gain itself except for the time of eating food, the monk is not sick, has not worked, and has not traveled, and the latter invitation has no gain of clothes or the price of clothes. This becomes a real downfall with five limbs: the monk is not sick, has not worked, or has not traveled, and both invitations are on the same day, the patrons are different, and it is the gain of food belonging to the five kinds of food, and the former has been eaten, and the latter invitation has no gain of clothes or the price of clothes, and it has been eaten. If the limbs are not complete, then blame accordingly. The downfall of eating again and again is the thirty-first. The basis for the downfall of eating in a dwelling place is: the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. A householder lived on a rocky mountain, and he had a dwelling built for the sake of the monks and Brahmins of the four directions, and he provided the necessities of alms to whoever lived in that dwelling, monks and Brahmins of the four directions. When the Bhagavan displayed great miracles in Shravasti, subdued other heretics, and made gods and men rejoice, and made the hearts of wise people rejoice, then other heretics relied and lived in the border areas. At another time, sixty naked ascetics came to that rocky mountain, and that householder provided them with necessities. At that time, a faithful merchant from Shravasti came to that rocky mountain with goods, and that householder invited him there, and that merchant

Then, that householder thought, it would be better to go and see the Śrāvaka disciples of the Blessed One. So he went there and saw that those naked ascetics were completely without shame. That householder said to them: Friends, is the seed good? Is the field good? They said: Friends, the seed is good, but the field is the naked ascetics, without shame, who are evil-minded, in empty places like a salty door. They are completely inferior sinners. The householder said: Friends, are there any other good fields? They said: Yes, the Śrāvaka disciples of the Blessed One. The householder said: If they come here, I will provide them with the necessities for alms. That merchant sold the goods, collected the price, and then went to Śrāvastī (an ancient Indian city, now in Uttar Pradesh), and told Nanda (another name for Ānanda), the six groups of monks went to that rock, and the householder provided them with the necessities. Those naked ascetics left one person to guard the dwelling, and the others went to commit violence. The six groups of monks drove away the person guarding the dwelling, and ate there for a long time. After a while, the householder went to another rock for some business, so the six groups of monks spoke of the defects of his wife, that begging woman, and ridiculed her. The householder's wife therefore did not believe, and gradually reduced their offerings and lodging. That naked ascetic guard who was driven away also summoned his sixty companions, and engaged in a vile battle with the six groups of monks. The six groups of monks only protected their mouths, eyes, and the root of the precepts. Those sixty naked ascetics beat them severely with whips, fists, feet, and sticks. While they were beating the naked ascetics, they climbed out of the dwelling. The Brahmins and householders heard this and said: Wise ones, look, look! The renunciates are fighting, is it going to rain? The six groups of monks said: Nanda, the place of enjoyment has been burned, and the fire god has not yet been extinguished, come, let's go to Śrāvastī. As they were going to Śrāvastī, a debater named Cāraka, who refuted the eternalist and annihilationist views of the world, came from the south to Śrāvastī, and also the venerable Śā
