And, the other party understands the meaning. Among those, if the limbs are not complete, then scold as appropriate. The eighth of the downfall of speaking of the lama of human dharma. The commentary on the Sutra of Individual Liberation, Volume Nine. The beginning of the downfall of slander is: The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in the Light Garden of Rajagriha (around the 6th century BC, the capital of the Magadha kingdom, near Patna, Bihar today), the abode of the Kalandaka bird. At that time, the venerable Gyatbu Nor was staying on the seat, and was appointed as the distributor of food. Because he had faith, was good and had good intentions, he was diligent in the work of taking care of the Sangha with the Dharma. He did not fail to offer or completely give to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, or the satisfactory monks. He offered and completely gave in such a way that the Dharma robes were worn out and the patched clothes were completely tattered. The monks reported to the Bhagavan. From those reports, through the act of reporting, a large piece of cloth was given, as well as two monk friends and those born from the earth. The venerable Gyatbu Nor and the two who were connected from life to life, in front of those two monks, the venerable ones said: If the gains of the Sangha, all the gains are completely swallowed by one person, then how can the gains of the Sangha be accomplished? They scolded in this way, and the monks said to those two: Venerable ones, did you not gather there? We gathered. Why do you scold? The two said: Are we not allowed to gather? Why those monks with few desires? After tolerating the monks well beforehand, and then saying this afterwards, the venerable ones, in this way, in the capacity of friends, designate the gains of the Sangha to a certain person of mine, saying so and scolding. Accusing, speaking ill of, at that time. The monks reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan, as before, said again: Monk, whoever tolerates well beforehand, and then says this afterwards, the venerable ones, in this way, in the capacity of friends, designate the gains of the Sangha to a certain person, saying it is designated to me, commits a downfall. The place is...

(Rājagṛha) A person is a friend and two born from the earth (Śākyamuni Buddha). Afflictions are unbearable, and sin is slander. So, who is a bhikṣu? It is either a friend and two born from the earth (Śākyamuni Buddha), or something else like that. 'Having been well allowed' means having offered something different before. 'Below that' means at another time. 'Thus' means saying 'thus.' Regarding those who have life have abandoned intimacy in this way, who is a bhikṣu's friend? For the abbot, it is the one who lives together. For the one who lives together, it is the abbot. For the teacher, it is the attendant. For the attendant, it is the teacher. For the same abbot, it is the same abbot. For the same teacher, it is the same teacher. For a friend, it is a friend. 'Saṃgha' means the Saṃgha of the Śrāvakas of the Tathāgata. 'Gain' means there are two types of gain: gain of clothing and gain of food. In this context, it should be understood as gain of clothing. 'Dedicated' means accomplished within the Saṃgha. 'Saying that I have dedicated to a person' means for oneself. 'It is a downfall' means as before. So, here, distinguishing the fundamental downfall, the one who commits the downfall himself is also after the Saṃgha has given the Saṃgha's gain of clothing, which belongs to that action, to another person. 'This bhikṣu has wrongly dedicated the gain of clothing, which is not the gain of food of the Saṃgha of bhikṣus, to a person.' Saying that, whether the meaning that is not true is that itself, or whether it is mentioned by name or not in front of others, if it is said, it becomes the basis of a downfall of slander. The one who does this is the gain of clothing of the Saṃgha, and the person to whom it is dedicated belongs to the human realm, whether ordained or a householder. For this, the five limbs become a fundamental downfall: having been offered by faith before, being the gain of clothing of the Saṃgha, the one to whom it is dedicated being anyone belonging to the human realm, having lied, and the other person understanding the meaning by any means. If those limbs are not complete, then it becomes a lesser offense as appropriate. Slander.
