Ah, there is neither birth nor death there. Having been born, it will perish. This should not be said either, because it is repetitive. If someone says this, it should not be refuted. Because this verse shows that, for the formations realized in the three times, they themselves are impermanent, are suffering, and in order to counteract the desire, manifest joy, and particularly strong attachment to them, quiescence itself is the obstruction to them. The past formations, because they are born and then perish, are not permanent, they are impermanent. The future formations, because they are able to be born and perish, are of the nature of birth and death. The present formations, because they have arisen and are manifestly inclined to perish, are born and then perish. Those who are completely pacified are happy. Called cessation without connection, that is Nirvana. Its classification can also be understood in thirteen ways: nature, profundity, completely defiled, ultimate meaning, not completely perfect, completely perfect, without adornment, with adornment, without distinction, particularly superior, with remainder, without remainder, and by name. Among them, from the perspective of nature, what ceases, what is ceased, and where does it cease? What ceases? Through the path, that is, through the noble ones. What is ceased? Having abandoned all obscurations and evil destinies, and there is no other birth, this is cessation. Where does it cease? In the realm of the uncontaminated. As it is said, where does the eye cease and be separated from the perception of color, until the mind ceases and becomes separated from the perception of dharma? Similarly, where the eye and ear, as well as the nose, tongue, body, and mind, as well as the eye and form, etc., will all completely cease. Profundity is because cessation arises from the pacification of those formations. It should not be said that it is other or non-other, both or neither. If it is other, then because it is not related to it, it will become another thing. If it itself is non-other, then it will become the nature of complete defilement. If it is both, then it is both.

If not, it will become non-existent. That is completely beyond all paths of speech, it is without elaboration. As it is said in the scriptures, the venerable Shariputra said, if one thinks that there is something else besides detachment from desire, cessation, and pacification after the exhaustion of the six sense spheres, then one is elaborating on elaboration. If one thinks that there is nothing else, then one is elaborating on non-elaboration. If one thinks that there is something else that is both existent and non-existent, or if one thinks that something else is neither existent nor non-existent, then one is elaborating on non-elaboration. As many sense spheres as there are, that is how much elaboration there is. The Blessed One said that when the six sense spheres cease, non-elaboration is nirvana. It is like saying this. From the perspective of all afflictions, its branch is nirvana, because its branch has abandoned the state of universally practicing afflictions. The cessation that is destroyed by the power of the worldly path is a so-called term. As it is said in the scriptures, it is like the widely appearing "separation from desires." From the ultimate truth, it is the destruction of power by the wisdom of the noble ones. Not fully complete refers to what is included from the fruit of stream-enterer up to the entry into the Arhat fruit, because there are remaining pervasive bonds. Fully complete refers to what is included in the Arhat fruit, because there is no remaining pervasive practice. Without adornment refers to those who are liberated by wisdom. With adornment refers to those who are liberated from both parts, because they possess special qualities. With distinction refers to those who are liberated from the obscurations of afflictions, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Especially distinguished refers to the perfectly enlightened Buddha who is liberated from the obscurations of knowledge. With remainder refers to the realm of nirvana with the remainder of aggregates. Without remainder refers to the realm of nirvana without the remainder of aggregates. In terms of names, as it is said in the scriptures, the Blessed One completely abandoned, individually abandoned, brought to an end, exhausted, detached from desire, ceased, pacified, submerged, uncompounded, difficult to see, unmoving, without knots, deathless, without outflows, place, island, protector.
