The term "believing in what is unreal" refers to clinging to something that has no real meaning as if it were real, because it generates inverted views that are contrary to liberation and so on. The term "not cherishing what should be cherished" means that here, Nirvana is what should be cherished because it is virtuous and constant, and because it is supreme. Therefore, one does not perceive that the wealth of enjoyment of desires, etc., is meaningless. To perceive something as meaningful is to cherish it. To perceive something as not to be cherished is to not cherish it. There is also no path or method to attain it; one who possesses such a mind is precisely one who perceives what is to be cherished as not to be cherished. Therefore, one will not attain what is to be cherished. The term "therefore, one will not attain what is to be cherished" means that one will not attain Nirvana or the path to it, because there is no liberation for such people. From what does this arise? As it is said, "having wrong conceptualization as an object," which refers to having wrong conceptualization as an object and focus. Or, it means being overly focused on inappropriate attention. The term "cherishing what should be cherished" means understanding the meaning of Nirvana, etc., as real meaning, supreme, and a method. Also, knowing that what is not to be cherished is not to be cherished. The term "having good conceptualization as an object" refers to having a non-inverted object, because it is an object of practice that abides in the four mindfulnesses. To show that one does not attain what is to be cherished and that suffering arises because of clinging to wrong views, here it is said "seeing" and so on. In Shravasti, when the Kumuda flower festival of the fourth month (Tibetan calendar) arrived, lamps were lit at night from Jeta Grove to Shravasti. Then, the crowds of people coming and going saw moths falling on the lamps and offerings of the heretics, and they said, "Falling, falling," and that is the origin of this story. Samsara is the continuous taking, meaning the continuous taking and clinging to desires, etc. The term "running" refers to the continuous cycle from this world to another, driven by the power of actions and impulses. One will not go to the essence, that is, one will not attain liberation or the path to it.

It means not changing. In other places, it is said that it will not become going to the other shore. "Bonds not new and growing in newness, etc." Regarding this, here it is said that karma and afflictions are bonds. It is explained by the phrase, "Those beings are bound by the three bonds of karma." The bonds of afflictions and karma are those that have not arisen before, and those that arise later, being small, medium, and large, increasing, and so on. "In the fire" refers to going, which is called "Padliga." Here it is used in conjunction with the word "fire." In particular, what burns is the fire here, which means hell. Or it could be the three lower realms or samsara. Going there means having arrived. Here an example is given, like a moth, for example, how a moth moves. Where? It is called "in the fire," meaning fire such as lamps. So, what is the cause of wandering in samsara like that? That very cause is pointed out. "Seeing and hearing," etc., seeing is seeing, which is abiding in seeing the aggregates as a collection. Clinging to that is especially attachment, and that is samsara. Hearing is the tenets of wrong views, established and followed by that and a reversed mind, thus revolving in samsara. Alternatively, seeing refers to what is happening now. Hearing refers to the past and future. Alternatively, seeing refers to not recognizing the faults of impermanence, etc., and being especially attached when experiencing pleasing forms, etc. Because of attachment to the desired object, one becomes ignorant of anything. Brahmins who have heard from others about fire offerings, throwing themselves into fire, and fasting, etc., hoping to achieve accomplishment and wanting to do them, this is especially attachment to attainment. Or it can be said that hope is virtuous deeds and one's own efforts, etc. Clinging refers to clinging to what is reversed. "This world is" means that those who have entered correctly in that way are also truly existing. In order to show that through correct attention one can be free from doubt and can turn back from falling into a precipice, therefore, here it is said experiencing change and so on. The life-endowed Namdru, whatever doubts and regrets there may be, that...
