Explanation of the Chapter on Special Topics, Wisdom Armor. Explanation of the Chapter on Special Topics, Wisdom Armor. After that, the miscellaneous chapter should be arranged, in order to reverse the cause of showing the loss of mindfulness, so the miscellaneous is shown separately. Because doing the loss of mindfulness, one does not do श्रेष्ठ to cultivate mindfulness, therefore, this separate display of miscellaneous will destroy the cause of loss. Or, in order to show that cultivating mindfulness of the Buddha and others, for those who have nourished their minds, the separate display of miscellaneous and so on will not cause harm. Or, in order to show that the time for cultivating mindfulness is near, because this is what should be done first in everything, therefore, it is shown, and it is said, "My work should be done," and so on. A son of a गृहपति became very young and wealthy, therefore अत्यधिक did the work of desire. His elder brother exhorted him, saying that this is destroying the Dharma, now is the time to practice the Dharma, and so on, extensively. He died and was reborn as an ox. When the elder brother saw the ox in a pasture burdened and panting, breathing from its mouth, he said, "Is it time?" When he was also reborn as a god, because of this, the Bhagavan spoke two verses. The so-called "first only" means that one should strive from the beginning. The so-called " कार्य मेल्चे क्यिस् " means that for the work and कार्य मेल्चे क्यिस् of the nature of good deeds such as mindfulness, one should strive. What should be done first should be determined, meaning that one should not wait for the future. With what thought? It is said, "The time to do my work has passed." My work should be done, that is, good deeds, which will never change. The state of old age, which is widely known in the world, is also inconsistent at the time of good deeds. "Passed" means that one has passed away and fallen into evil destinies, therefore, it is difficult for worldly beings to abandon desires when they are in the prime of youth. In the middle,

Tasting its flavor, that is its necessity. In old age, one should accumulate wealth. After that, one should practice the Dharma. Because life is impermanent and unreliable, and for the root of all happiness, it is said that one should first practice the Dharma. What one should think about in old age, at that time one cannot gather, and things will completely decay. Shaking, destruction, and harm, these words mean that one's own work shakes and is destroyed. If I had done that in the beginning, this means that if a person only does what should be done in the beginning, then what has not been done will not happen. What has not been done is the decay of work, which is not doing that thing. The things that should be initiated and done first, because they have been done, so the noble people want to exhaust, which means they will not shake, will not suffer, thinking that what has been done has not been done well. Or because what should not be done has not been done, bad behavior is what should not be done. Therefore, it is first the cause of near accumulation. The time for doing things refers to the human body that has abandoned the eight unfavorable conditions mentioned earlier. Wanting to exhaust means overwhelming and surpassing, because the scope of language is diverse. In order to integrate into it, so it is said how and so on. Until then, people must strive. This means that the wise should strive until then, until things become perfect. Until the benefit of oneself and others becomes perfect, or until the desired result is obtained. Why? Because I have seen its nature. This means that such a nature is its essence. It means such a thing. It means, doing things with a diligent mind and seeing, it means, seeing by knowing the Suchness. How to see? It is said that one obtains as one wishes. It is said that in whatever way, with whatever thing that is beneficial to oneself or beneficial to others, that hoping in the same way, there is no doubt about it.

Now obtained, what meaning is sought in this? If one strives for that meaning, then that will surely be obtained, and severance will not prevent it. Thus it is said. In order to show that by this very diligence, one will obtain the unseen desired result. Therefore, diligence and so on are mentioned. In the country of Kosala, many Brahmins and householders gathered and sat in the house of the viewing ground, and in the meantime, they spoke of this matter: how can people transcend birth and old age? Some of them said, through severe asceticism. Others said, dwelling on platforms. Still others said, through sacrifices and fire offerings. The Blessed One said: Brahmins and householders, what do you think? If a dense forest or dense grass is burned by fire and thoroughly moistened by rain, will it still grow? Venerable one, yes, it will grow. What is the reason for that? Because the roots of the grass have not been cut. Likewise, some people think of practicing asceticism or dwelling on platforms, and so on. What is the reason for that? Because they have not abandoned all bonds. Therefore, this verse was spoken. Diligence means diligence in generating the accumulation of the path and so on. One should be diligent means one should strive, one should initiate diligence in directly seeing the path of seeing. Or, one should combine the worldly and supramundane paths in order. One should become an island to oneself. It means that one should rely on oneself and abide, one should accomplish, which is the meaning of Nirvana. If that is the case, then how does one become an island to oneself by abandoning the defilements to be abandoned through meditation? In order to illustrate the analogy of the order of abandonment, it is said: Just as a silversmith refines silver, one should purify one's own impurities. For example, just as a silversmith gradually purifies the impurities of silver, likewise, you should purify and remove the impurities of your own mind that are to be abandoned through meditation.
