To show that there is no fear of falling into evil destinies, it is said, "Without mental defilements," and so on. In a vast place, it begins with a monk who has not subdued his senses and fears falling into evil destinies. Defilements exist in this mind that has defilements, meaning that the gates of the senses have not been restrained. If asked how a monk becomes defiled? The sutra says, "Because the gates of the senses have not been restrained," meaning that defilements of the mind arise in all realms. Other than that, a mind without defilements has no fear of falling into evil destinies, because falling into evil destinies is the result of the gates of the senses not being restrained. Those who have subdued their senses are liberated from evil destinies. Through "Not conquered by the bonds of the mind," it means that for the mind that has not been conquered by bonds, that is, anyone whose mind has not been conquered by bonds, it is to prevent the universally clinging mind, that is, it has been prevented. Being conquered by bonds is to have discriminations about desires, etc., because those who have many discriminations will have confusion of the senses. Abandoning discriminations about desires, etc., is because discriminations are made about renunciation, etc., and discriminations are considered to be distractions. Or it is a bond or an obstacle. "Completely abandoning virtue and vice," this refers to, vice, which is a synonym for desire, completely abandoning vice means being free from attachment to desire. Virtue, here refers to the realm of equanimity, because it is free from attachment to the realms of form and formlessness, so it is completely abandoning virtue. Abandoning vice, there is no fear of falling into evil destinies, because abandoning merit, there is no fear of being born in good destinies. Because going to good destinies is also not good, it should be abandoned like abandoning evil destinies. Other than that, this also comes from relying on beneficial holy beings, therefore, in order to show that even if one particularly wants to, one should follow a teacher who speaks harsh words but can point out benefits, let alone a teacher who speaks sweet words? So it is said, "Preventing the improper," and so on. A Brahmin became tired of begging, so he became a renunciate.

From transformation, whoever dwells closest, he prevents non-conduct and faults, exhorts and admonishes, to what extent will he be completely weary, and then let him enter into decline again, he is in charge and said these. Having heard these, he gradually attained the fruit of Arhatship. The so-called "preventing non-place" is to prevent evil, which shows compassion. The so-called "good speech" is to show the scriptures, which shows conformity with the teachings. The so-called "showing faults" shows the display of reasoning. What is accomplished by both teaching and reasoning is very stable. Or, it is exhortation from poverty, this is not a Shramana. This is a fault of nature. This is the practice of stipulated faults, do not completely transcend this training. Or, observe his behavior day and night. The so-called "punishing instructor" is to exhort and teach with respect and caution. Whoever has a way of speaking, he is the speaker. To bow to the exhorter and follower, and to show correct behavior, this is the meaning of exhortation and following here. Or, because of evil, it shows, and because of dwelling, it subdues. Because the difference of the vessel is not fully understood, and it is untimely and compliant, so in order to understand this, "wise" is said, meaning to understand the difference of time and vessel, etc. Or, because of understanding the difference between merit and fault. Because of correctly understanding the time of holding and cutting off, etc. Such sentient beings. Should follow and abide. Why? "Like that" is said, is a noble person. The so-called "if relying" is relying on that person. The so-called "will become good" will become merit, etc. The so-called "will not become bad" will not become a fault. Relying on merit alone can eliminate evil, but

To show that it is not through asceticism etc., but through "near to peace" etc. In the snowy mountains, in order to best practice asceticism and eliminate sins, seeing some old ascetics practicing asceticism, the Blessed One said, "This cannot eliminate sins," therefore he said these words. "Peace" means the mind is secluded. "Extremely peaceful" means the body is secluded. "Speaking softly" means that language is well restrained. "Without pride" means that one does not particularly elevate one's mind when speaking. Or, "near to peace" means abandoning the evil deeds created by the mind. "Extremely peaceful" means abandoning the evil deeds created by the body. Its root is the Dharma, to show that it is good because it is unwavering, therefore it is without pride. Or, because one has meditation, one has near to peace. "Expelling the sinful dharmas" means abandoning unwanted things, or abandoning evil deeds in samsara. To show a metaphor here, it is said, "Like the wind to the leaves." For example, just as the leaves of a tree are blown by strong winds. To show that for a person who is free from all sins, whatever fault is said will become an unwanted result for oneself, therefore it is said "whoever" etc. The Brahminical curser reviled the Blessed One with obvious sinful words, and threw a handful of dirt at the Blessed One, but it was blown back on himself by the wind, therefore he said these words. Others say that this started from a hunter named Koka. "Whoever" means a householder or a renunciate. "Extremely without anger" means a mind that has not been harmed by anger, that is, a person who has loving-kindness towards sentient beings. "The angry one" means one who is harmed by anger. "Pure" means having cleanliness. "Pure" also means behaving well in all aspects, that is, having the three good deeds of body etc. "Man" means the continuum arising from practicing the path.
