Moreover, with loving kindness, a person of moderate intelligence will not abandon the conduct of a deceased noble being, just as the ocean tide will not cross the embankment. Associating with mixed individuals will result in possessing both merits and faults. So, what kind of person should one associate with to gain excellence? That is, "the wise," which refers to understanding the suchness of the meaning of teaching and listening to the sacred Dharma. A wise person is characterized by diligently acting in accordance with what is appropriate, that is, a wise person distinguishes by good conduct. Or, because they possess knowledge that arises from actions and is obtained through reason, they act appropriately. Or, because they know the means to abandon faults such as shortcomings. So, in what way should one associate and rely upon them in order to abandon sins and acquire merits? That is, "like a beginner," just as he drinks milk. He drinks milk by extracting milk from water mixed with milk and abandoning the water. Similarly, the wise also abandon sins. When the householder's son grew up, he was not particularly happy to see his own home, but began to speak from the extremely difficult renunciation. "Seeing the faults of the world," this is because he saw the faults of samsara, such as sickness, old age, and sins. This shows the path of accumulation, and in order to show the path of seeing, it is said, "Seeing the Dharma that can be stopped." Because he became weary, he relied on relying on spiritual friends and so on, and realized the unconditioned path, because "cessation" is another name for the unconditioned. "Seeing" means that the seeing of truth has arisen, which is the remainder of the sentence. Similarly, having abided in the path of meditation, "the noble does not delight in sin," that is, the wise do not indulge in the realm of afflictions with delight. Or, because seeing the noble truths, one becomes a noble being, therefore one does not like to do evil, because one has obtained the precepts of not doing evil. This shows the path of meditation. "The sinful do not delight in virtue" means that ignorant people do not meditate on the path because they are deluded and ignorant.

dislike, because they fear liberation. Or they dislike virtuous conduct. So, how long does it take to become an Arhat simply by being alone and mindful? Starting from individually experiencing the bliss of liberation, one knows the taste of extreme solitude. This is said to explain that extreme solitude is special solitude, which is the meaning of knowing Suchness. The characteristic of its taste is knowing benefit. Therefore, by the power of worldly knowledge, one can turn away from the lower realms, as explained by the words, "The power of patience will not lead to the lower realms." By the power of the path of seeing, it is also said, "This monk's hell has been exhausted." and so on. By the power of the path of meditation, one can turn away from all suffering, because by being in accordance with it, one can attain the state of being free from desire in the three realms. Or, extreme solitude is the solitude of body and mind, which is the attainment of calm abiding, as the sutra shows the diamond-like samadhi. Because a diamond can pierce through rock, and samadhi can destroy afflictions, they are in accordance with the Dharma. "Well-pacified" means that the near pacification of all disturbances is well-pacified, which is calm abiding. Knowing its taste is knowing its taste, which is knowing Suchness. As it is said, "Without meditation there is no wisdom, and without wisdom there is no samadhi." When does one see the difference in the taste of these two? To explain the benefit of that time, it is said, "Without epidemics," which is because one is forever free from suffering. Because one has abandoned afflictions, one attains it. "Doing evil" means not taking the karma of rebirth created by afflictions. This shows the result of the path of seeing and meditation. Thus, because one is free from desire in the three realms, how long does one remain for the sake of taming beings, and what does one do while staying? "Drinking the taste of delight in the Dharma," which means experiencing the bliss of joy arising from the Dharma of liberation. Or, it means abiding in bliss in the seen Dharma. If one acts in this way,
