Whatever is experienced, is seeing, hearing, knowing, and realization, these are the four stages. As it is said. By disrespectfully engaging with such a state, all afflictions will be exhausted, to show this meaning, such as "These are the limits of suffering" and so on. Others say that this has shown the four truths. Suffering is to be seen as it is. The origin is mostly realized through hearing. Because it is fully examined through realization, and it is the fruit of realization, realization is liberation. Because it is obtained through special wisdom, knowing is the path, and through realization and cultivation, it will accomplish the end of suffering. Having shown the path of accumulation through the gate of fully examining the sense bases, and having shown it through the gate of fully examining the aggregates, the words "body breaks down" and so on are spoken. In order to eliminate desire from what I am particularly attached to, including the place and the protective wheel, these are spoken. The so-called "body breaks down" means that the key is broken and decayed, because it is the nature of that body. The so-called "feeling becomes cold" means becoming inanimate, because a dead body has no experience. The so-called "consciousness ceases" means being separated from consciousness, because there is no grasping of characteristics in it. The so-called "action is pacified" means that mind and so on are equally complete, and there is no lack of completeness, and it is exhausted, because they are separated from suffering there. The so-called "consciousness is extinguished" means that it has become without appearance. If one knows these and is united with separation, then to show that one is liberated from suffering and that there is no self-continuity, there are words such as "these are." This also shows the four noble truths, because the previous five aggregates are the nature of suffering and origin, these two are. This is the path because it accomplishes the end of suffering. Also, the one who accomplishes the end is the one who abides at the end, that is, accomplished by cessation. In what order is nirvana attained? Or how? This will be described after that. To enter here first is to regress, because entering there
