The earth deity said: "Monks, this monk should not say anything. Why is that? Because this monk has attained the four superior minds, and he has also attained the purpose for which he renounced the world, therefore he spoke these words. Here, 'this' refers to the fact that Nirvana cannot be realized by a person of weak diligence, nor can it be realized by a lazy person. Weak diligence means a lazy person. Therefore, regarding those things, that is, regarding those virtuous deeds that should be done constantly, because there is no effort guided by diligence. 'Small wisdom' means having weak wisdom, because one is very foolish and lacks the wisdom obtained through reason. 'Without wisdom' means that one does not have the special wisdom arising from the power of hearing and so on, regarding the scriptures spoken by the Tathagata, that is, without wisdom. Therefore, this indicates the absence of wisdom arising from hearing and so on. Or, it sequentially indicates worldly and transworldly wisdom. If someone asks, how can he not realize it? 'Completely severing all knots' refers to those who have severed all bonds. 'Cannot obtain' means that abandoning all afflictions is attainment, which is a very difficult thing, how can ordinary people understand it? In the teaching of 'Completely severing all knots,' in order to show the state of complete tranquility, 'You take this boat' and so on are mentioned. It is said that the Blessed One stayed in Varanasi during the summer, went to the bank of the Ganges River, and then the boatman invited the Blessed One, requesting the Blessed One to board this boat. Then, the Blessed One, together with the assembly of monks, boarded the boat, and the boat was filled with water. The old boatman said to the other boatmen: 'In any case, make sure this boat does not sink, row like this.' At that moment, the Blessed One spoke these words. 'This' refers to the boat filled with water. 'Rowing' means pouring out and discarding, that is, pouring the water outside. 'It's like becoming lighter' means that in this way, the boat

Nor will it be destroyed, you will happily go to the other shore, likewise, you should abandon hatred and desire. This shows that desire is the word of all realms (referring to the desire realm, form realm, and formless realm). Hatred is related to the desire realm. To subdue the sentient beings who are indulging in desires, the Buddha showed the abandonment of desire. Subjugating others is abandoning hatred. Or, attachment and anger always cause harm. Hearing these words, he attained the stream-entry fruit. He will attain Nirvana. In these teachings, if one asks, to which tense does this belong? Does it also express in the future tense? This is because hearing this Dharma can guide others, and it shows that Nirvana includes the three times of past, present, and future, so it is said: The past has passed, and will not arise again. Not long after the Blessed One attained perfect enlightenment in Uruvilva, he thought: What I experienced in the past has passed away, and what exists now has arisen. What has not yet manifested is liberation, which is neither born nor dies, nor will it be born again. He kept saying this. The past has passed, referring to the past life forms that have also included conditioned phenomena, because they have the nature of birth and death. Therefore, no longer arising means that it will then disappear, because it has the nature of destruction. For example, afflictions such as desire no longer arise, because there is no aggregation between things, and things that existed before no longer arise later, just like the Buddha himself. To illustrate this, it goes on to say: It will happen like this from then on. This means that it will happen from then on, that is, by the power of the aggregation of conforming conditions. I have entered Nirvana, there will be no future, and there is no present. This is because I have broken away from the three times and am eternal. Now is now, even when it happens now, it does not exist.
