It is said, "The supreme attainment of health," and so on. The king, the lord of the south, was very stingy and wealthy, but he was afflicted with illness. He would not spend money even for medicine, so the doctor thought: If I could get a lot of money, I would cure him well, otherwise I would not. The queen also thought: If this very old man dies, these two rivals who were frightened by him and became monks, and I, will be able to enjoy the pleasure of love and desire to our hearts' content. The rival monk also heard the news and came, thinking: If this guy dies, I will abandon my monkhood and enjoy the pleasure of the kingdom. The Blessed One, knowing that the time had come to tame them, went there by means of miraculous powers, and after subduing them in order, spoke these words. By hearing each verse, they attained the fruit of stream-entry. Others, such as the protectorless giver of food, were busy distributing food on the eighth day of fasting, and because they missed the time and fasted, they became ill, and it was with great difficulty that they recovered. On that very day, a merchant whom he loved returned from the sea with many jewels. He thought to himself: I have recovered from a serious illness, and this merchant whom I love has also returned with boundless wealth, so this is also my merit, what will make me happy? I should invite the Blessed One and the Sangha of Hearers, and offer them food for three months, and by this I will attain the bliss of liberation. Then, It is said that he took wealth from it, offered food, and spoke these words. "Without disease" means without inequality; without disease itself is without disease. Disease is when the causes of disease are unbalanced, and without disease is when the causes of disease are balanced. This is the supreme attainment, because there is no attainment more supreme than this, and for this purpose, it seems that all wealth must be completely abandoned. Beautiful and clear.

Whatever exists, that is the definite word of acquisition. Contentment is the source of wealth. It means being completely content with just tattered robes, etc. Because the mind of greed and expectation always desires the best wealth. The insatiable rich are always poor, and the contented poor are always rich. That's what this saying means. If there is any difference between acquisition and wealth, what is it? For example, obtaining something is acquisition, and that which can be used continuously is wealth, and so on. Trust is the pinnacle of friendship. It means that with a trusting mind, without the suspicion of deception, one can relax, which is the word omitted here. Therefore, becoming a trustworthy person is the best friend or a special friend. Nirvana is the ultimate happiness. It means being free from the obscurations of birth. Nirvana means liberation. That is also supreme happiness, because it is free from the three kinds of suffering. Any desired happiness is worldly, so it is said. Like this, from being without illness to obtaining everything, Nirvana is the best. It is also said: Worldly happiness, even if attained with effort, is small, without happiness but with fear, the noble ones abandon it, desiring liberation. So it is said. In order to show that liberation is attained by understanding suffering, therefore, actions and so on are mentioned. When the Blessed One and the attendant Venerable Ananda went to Shravasti for alms, they saw five hundred thieves with their hands and feet cut off, imprisoned in the village jail. They also saw the Blessed One, and with pitiful voices cried out: We are hungry and thirsty. Then the Blessed One spoke two verses. After the Blessed One's instruction, Anathapindika satisfied them with food and drink. They developed great faith in the Blessed One, and after death were reborn in the Thirty-Three Heavens, came here and attained the fruit of stream-entry. The so-called action is all compounded things. The so-called suffering is unpleasant.

English
It is truly tormenting, because it is inconsistent with the noble ones. This is explained as the suffering that pervades all conditioned phenomena. In order to show the suffering that pervades one aspect, it is said: Among diseases, hunger is unbearable. This means that among the diseases of the body's condition that generate painful feelings, the most unbearable disease is hunger, that is, heat in the stomach. Because it is always associated, difficult to cure, and pervasive, there is no bodily feeling that can compare with hunger. If one knows it as it is, this means that if one knows the state of painful feelings, and other states besides, as they are, through knowing and realizing. Nirvana becomes supreme, this means that the one who attains liberation becomes supreme. If there is fabrication, one will be immersed in the suffering of falling into the lower realms, and one will certainly not be liberated. Therefore, in order to show that one should supremely cultivate nirvana, it is said: Few go to the happy realms. This means that few beings are able to attain going to the happy realms, because the practice of virtuous deeds is very rare. Countless go to the evil realms, this means that they go to the evil realms in many ways, because the deeds of evil are immeasurable. As it is said in the sutras, the noble Unobstructed One saw with his divine eye three immeasurable things: the emanations of the Buddha, the intermediate state, and those who fall into the evil realms. If one realizes such faults, this means realizing the harms mentioned before. Quickly attain nirvana, this means that by cultivating the noble path and realizing it, one can attain nirvana very quickly and be free from all those faults. If one asks, is nirvana also attained without a cause? Those who go to the happy realms have a cause, and so on. The great wandering speaker, this means that this verse was spoken in relation to the annihilationist, and then he generated faith, renounced, and attained the fruit of an arhat.
