What need is there to speak of observing with a single word or with other words? All Buddhas do not necessarily teach uniformly with a single letter or word. Rather, it is shown that in the scriptures of Kashyapa (a Buddha's name), the aggregates themselves exist. It is because of showing that examination exists in the wise, but not in children, that it is said, "The one with intelligence, a single word," and so on. Alas, all conditioned things are impermanent! Just by hearing this one sentence, the king realized the truth. Devadatta, although he renounced and recited the three pitakas, was still born in hell, so this was said. "With a single word" means hearing a single, incomparable verse. "The one with intelligence" means the one with wisdom. "A hundred words will be known" means to become knowledgeable. The sound of "a hundred words" means immeasurable words. For example, just as poison relies on a small wound on the body and spreads throughout the entire body, so too, the one with intelligence, relying on hearing a single word, will realize all things. "Children with a thousand words" means that even if one hears eighty-four thousand collections of teachings, one will not understand a single word from them, let alone many. It is because of showing that the one with wisdom is beneficial even if they become an enemy, and that one should not befriend children, that it is said, "Better to have a wise enemy than a foolish friend," and so on. The son of a great merchant, relying on an unwholesome friend, engaged with another's wife, was killed by King Ajatashatru and was born in hell. Therefore, to control this situation, from "Monks, abide with good friends, associate with virtue," until some point, these words were spoken. "Unfriendly" means an enemy. "Better to have a wise enemy" means that even if the one with wisdom becomes an enemy, they are still the best. Because some desire to be unfriendly, they are born into an unfriendly family. However, the one who has become intelligent is skilled in what should and should not be done, and because they fear being ridiculed, they do not act rashly. Therefore, the story of King Clear and the great Kapina, as well as Rung Trakhan and others, are also included here.

It should be told. One should not be friends with children. The reason for saying this is that a friend is someone who wants to help. Here, the example of the butcher's son hitting and killing his father with a stick should be told. If someone asks, is being close to children also condemned? "Being close to children," the reason for saying this is that children abandon the position of a friend and abide, even if they want to help greatly, they will lead and guide to hell because of ignorance. Not only are there faults such as bad words and unpleasantness, but also because they think "this is helping me," and trust them, it is also extremely dangerous, and they will fall into a harmful cliff. Here, the story of Devadatta and Ajatashatru should be told. In order to show that thing through the characteristics of children, so it is said "what kind of child" and so on. A monk committed a transgression, prostrated to the Blessed One's two feet with all his limbs, And reported: Venerable, I knowingly committed a transgression, like a child and a fool. When was this said? "What kind of child is a child," so-called "knowing," there are two ways to make a child complete: not understanding the Dharma and not understanding oneself. If he does not understand the Dharma, but understands himself, he cannot be completely called a child, because he belongs to the category of the wise. If someone does not understand the Dharma and is foolish, but understands his own actions, then here he is called a wise person. Therefore, the person who enters the state of understanding himself is called a wise person who understands himself here. How can understanding oneself not be called wise? Because there is no merit equal to understanding oneself, so he is wise. "What kind of child thinks he is wise," it means that some people, although they do not clearly understand the dharmas, think they are wise, think they are wise, and think they are equal to those who understand and rely on many treatises of wise people. This is called a child. It means that he is a child, an extremely ignorant person. The condemnation of the noble ones is the best, and the praise of the non-noble ones, like a mindless fool, is also like that.
