If one gets the smell of something by being near it, then why doesn't one become holy by being near holy people? Therefore, one should mainly rely on virtuous people. This is saying that, therefore, one should rely on those who have excellent qualities. Then, what kind of person should one rely on? More important than the main one. This is saying, more excellent than the most excellent, that is, relying on those who have excellent qualities. Through what does one become most important? Through possessing the most excellent wisdom. This is what is said. Through discriminating the Dharma, one obtains a special union. Discipline refers to the Pratimoksha vows and so on. Near peace refers to Samadhi. Therefore, this is also indicating the nature of the three skandhas, that is, the noble path. If it is said that a person who relies on an evil friend will decline, then how does one decline, such as fame and so on? In order to explain the degradation of it, it is said, "A person here, the fish rots." In Shravasti, the Brahmin minister of King Prasenajit began to perform a sacrificial fire offering. For this purpose, a person took a bundle of grass from the monastery and wanted to enter the city, and on the way he saw many fish. He put the fish in the bundle and took it home, and then offered the bundle to his master and minister. However, because the fish emitted a very rotten smell, it was thrown outside. Another person also took leaves from a tree that grew there. After breaking it, he found a piece of musk and attached it to the leaf. Because it was connected to the musk, the leaf also became fragrant and suitable for use. The minister went to where the Bhagavan was and said: My sacrifice has not gathered any limbs. The Blessed One taught that sacrifice is such an important thing, and for this he spoke two verses. "The fish rots" means completely wet and rotten. "Bound" means tightly bound together. Those used to make kusha grass and darbha grass, the kusha grass itself will also rot.

It is like this, even the kusha grass that has become a pure body rots and emits a foul smell, becoming something that should be discarded. Befriending sin is also like this. This means that, similarly, even holy people who want to rely on evil people will be tainted with the foul smell of evil words and so on. The one called རྒྱ་སྤོས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning) is a highly praised and fragrant medicine. If someone makes the leaves of the palasha tree into purma, it means putting them together. The word དང་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning) means "also," because it is related to it. The leaf itself is also fragrant, meaning that one will obtain a good smell, find a satisfactory smell, meaning that one will find that which is completely worthy of acceptance. Similarly, befriending holy people is also like that. This means that, similarly, if one relies on a virtuous spiritual friend, even if one has no merits, one will be tainted with the merits of fame and so on. Not rotting also means that befriending sin is also like that. In order to explain how befriending sin will rot, and the suspicion that one will do evil, and that evil words will arise, therefore "if" and so on are said. Not doing evil means that King Ajatashatru narrated and showed that relying on an unwholesome spiritual friend caused great regret, and the king did evil deeds with his body. Therefore, great king, please rely on a virtuous spiritual friend. That will be for your long-term benefit. Even if the great king does not do evil, relying on an evil person will become an object of suspicion for the people of the world, this is shown, and four verses are spoken. If someone does not do evil himself, what need is there to mention doing it himself? This is the meaning of "who." If one relies on the doers, it is relying on sin. The meaning of generating suspicion is that the people of the world will generate suspicion, it is the meaning of generating suspicion and the root of suspicion. Where is it? In the place of doing evil, it means doing evil in the heart. If this person does evil in secret
