The third line acts with what truly exists, and the rest show its fruit. Because the solitary place is precisely the manifestation of desire, and in order to grasp it, it is said, "living alone" and so on. In the case of being alone, without companions, in a harsh environment, this shows two modes of conduct, the other of which will be explained below. One should rejoice in it, that is, one should contemplate it accordingly. The so-called "single bed" means that one should rejoice in the bed where one dwells alone. The place where one sits and rests is the bed. To practice alone is to wander alone for alms and so on when dwelling alone, without being attached to the four modes of conduct. In order to show that there is no attachment to these and that it is the cause of diligence, it is said, "without laziness," not generating laziness, and possessing perfect diligence. The so-called "should rejoice" means that one should be very happy with being alone and so on, and should practice and contemplate accordingly. And "and" is the meaning of collection, and one should also rejoice in being alone. In order to abandon afflictions such as desire, one should be without companions, that is its meaning. As it is said, do great beings become alone even in the city? If one thinks like that, it is said, "living in the forest." If there are no close companions, one should live alone in the forest, because associating with non-virtuous people is the root of all evil deeds, and in order to obtain the special qualities of solitude and so on that are found in living in the forest. In order to show that conquering oneself is a great fruit, it is said, "Whoever, thousands upon thousands." And so on, there are three verses. King Light Victory's victor, the one who lives by fighting, even if given a hundred, can win on the battlefield. When the Blessed One heard this, he spoke these words. Having heard of living by fighting, thinking about how not to tame oneself and not to strive to conquer it, he asked the king to always practice fasting and so on.

Through understanding the meaning of these two verses, he attained the fruit of an Arhat. If someone fights with thousands upon thousands of people, that is, on the battlefield of fighting with thousands upon thousands. A victor is one who has defeated others, that is, one who has overcome ten hundred thousand. The so-called "whoever conquers himself," means whoever tames his own mind alone. That is precisely it, the very taming of oneself. Of those two battles, taming oneself is the supreme victory. The battlefield that utterly destroys the strength of others, that is, overcoming and eliminating the strength of others is victory on the battlefield. Of those two, especially victory on the battlefield, because it eliminates the enemy of afflictions that are difficult to abandon, therefore, conquering oneself is the best. To illustrate this very point, "oneself" is mentioned, that is, from one's own mind. Because compared to a person who fights with ten hundred thousand, taming oneself is the supreme victory on the battlefield. Therefore, conquering and taming oneself is the best praise. The so-called "others" does not refer to other beings, but rather to sentient beings who are under the control of afflictions, and people who have pride. The so-called "common," the word common is a synonym for evil, meaning that afflictions have taken control of the minds of others. Just as a lion overwhelming everything is the best, and not being filled with everything, that is what the Buddha taught. Why? To illustrate this very point. In the phrase "a person tames himself alone," "taming" refers to the mind of the sentient being itself. Not by a god, but it is connected with the phrase "others cannot defeat." Taming oneself is said to be preceded by the Pratimoksha vows, therefore it is said, "constantly practicing discipline," that is, constantly restraining with correct discipline and fully engaging in conduct. The two ways are constantly engaging in the discipline of morality, the former shows restraining the senses, and the latter shows restraining body and speech, the three ways show the combination of the assembly. The so-called "not by a god," that is,
