The so-called "one who possesses desire and attachment" refers to this. The obscuration of samadhi is the obscuration caused by attachment to form, and attachment is what is meant by desire. Desire and attachment refer to engaging in desire. Because one is controlled by it, one desires beautiful forms and the like, and hates unattractive forms. The saying, "That person does not know me," means that they do not know because they lack the wisdom of equanimity. If one abides in equanimity, one will see things as they are. This is expressed in such words. Because one is controlled by desire, one has no power to see special qualities. Therefore, how can one know those who possess qualities? Others say that because he saw the Buddha, a wandering ascetic named Agarmiṭa did not take the unparalleled example, but went to the forest and made offerings to the Blessed One. It is said that the Blessed One, in accordance with him, spoke these words. This is how it is taught: Even now, there are ordinary people who have abandoned desire and attachment, but who make such distinctions about the Tathagata, who possesses the thirty-two major marks of a great being: "This one will surely become a universal monarch." And because his voice is very pleasant, he will surely teach the four continents. Because of his special abilities, he can also subdue and guide others. Others say that a wandering ascetic, desiring to become omniscient, entered the hall of victory and, seeing the Blessed One teaching the Dharma, was filled with faith. "The Dharma of the Blessed One, the omniscient one, is well-spoken, and the Sangha of the Hearers is well-entered." He gained a good view. Because he was pleased with the Blessed One, he later slandered the wandering ascetics who lived in Shravasti. It is said that these words were spoken in this context. Therefore, whoever sees the Blessed One's perfect form and generates faith, or relies on a noble person, or listens to the holy Dharma, etc., will also become hateful. Because they have not realized the Dharmakaya, that is, because they do not understand and have no faith. In the previous verse, whoever

The terms "form" and "by my voice" indicate the external and internal forms of the form and the Dharmakaya. To explain, since one does not fully understand or completely know anything other than these two, one can be guided as appropriate. Therefore, it is mentioned, "If the inner is consciousness," and so on. "Inner" refers to oneself, the qualities that reside within oneself. "If" refers to a hundred. Even if all cannot ascertain the qualities that reside in the continuum of others, the meaning is that when one can clearly understand and completely determine. For example, the Bhagavan who alone has completely passed beyond sorrow, and his assembly of Shravakas, having entered the path he taught, what is accomplished by the wisdom arising from hearing and contemplating, especially believing in that which is generated by familiarity with the scriptures, is the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata itself. Its basis, the Rupakaya, is not particularly visible, because it is the very cause of completely passing beyond sorrow. For example, by the footprints of a great elephant, one can certainly know the elephant. Similarly, if one says that the Rupakaya is very beautiful, so it is the Dharmakaya, when it has exhausted the basis of special qualities, its basis is not like that. Just as believing in a sky flower with fragrance and color, this is false, and can be transformed and guided by the words of others, therefore, because I have power, I can make non-existent things exist, and I can show existing things to not exist, and I can make faults into virtues, and I can make virtues into faults. "The power of words is not like that, faults are faults, and virtues are virtues." That is the meaning. "External" refers to form. "Unseen" means not directly observed. "What is seeing the inner fruit?" refers to the inner fruit, the fruit arising from hearing and contemplating in the manner of hearing and contemplating the special characteristics of the scriptures, that is, the wisdom arising from hearing and contemplating. Having this way of seeing it is seeing the inner fruit, that is, worldly knowledge completely determines the special characteristics that exist in the continuum of others.
