Just as the Thus-Gone One taught, having heard the training in higher morality, one abandons desires that have become meaningless by relying on it. Children think of things as meaningful. Hearing obtains nirvana. This means that, in any case, here one hears the Thus-Gone One's teaching of higher wisdom and obtains the cessation of afflictions by relying on it. Alternatively, by hearing the Dharma, one obtains the abandonment of karma, afflictions, and the defilements of birth in sequence. Or, hearing discerns all dharmas. This is doing good. Hearing turns away from sin. This is not doing evil deeds. Hearing abandons meaningless things. This is not associating with sinful people. By relying on these three and meditating on the path, one will obtain nirvana. Alternatively, one will realize the nature of good and non-good dharmas, and then one will turn away from sin. By practicing virtue more and more, one abandons undesirable destinations, and so on, it should be said. To show that hearing and discipline make one beautiful, it is said, "If hearing is abundant," and so on, five verses. There are four kinds of people, and among them, who is the one who has heard much? To be called one who possesses hearing is not one who has heard much. Hearing is the basis, hearing accumulates, therefore, not understanding the meaning of the Dharma, not understanding the Dharma, not being in accordance with following the Dharma, up to the four alternatives. Therefore, these were said. Here, hearing many times is the same as hearing much, hearing many times and hearing much is called hearing much. If it is said, if he has the realization of the Vaibhashikas and others, understanding the meaning and words of the three pitakas as they are. Not guarding the precepts well refers to abstaining from the seven and abstaining from drinking alcohol, and right livelihood, not respecting the nine trainings. Guarding well means being well established. From that.

Reversal means not guarding well. Not practicing Dharma means following the Dharma. That is condemned for morality. The phrase "condemned for morality" means that even if one hears a lot and understands it through not fully guarding the training, one is especially condemned. It's like in the world, on a flat road, even a person with eyes falls again and again. Why? Like this, "His hearing is not perfect." It means that because this person is separated from good conduct, just hearing does not make himself perfect. The adornment of hearing is practice, and the adornment of the face is the eye, with this sentence, even if you hear a lot, if it is not with fruit, that is the meaning. If hearing is less, the phrase "if hearing is less" is because no matter how little hearing is, if you try to practice what you hear, you will be praised by the holy ones, and his hearing will become meaningful. The son of Sharadvati and others can be cited as examples here. The phrase "if hearing is less" means that if hearing is also less, and one is not respectful to the training, then just because of these two points, one will be condemned by the holy ones, that is, because of little hearing and broken morality. Why? The phrase "His conduct is not perfect" means that his ordination is without fruit, because it is incomplete. Having a lot of hearing and having morality, ordination will become complete, and good conduct will become perfect, otherwise it is not so. Having a lot of hearing is also like, even if you have a right eye, if you don't have the other, the face will not be beautiful. Now the situation of the other eye should also be said. If a person's two eyes are without defects, then they are very beautiful eyes, just as they are very praised in the world, similarly, a person with hearing and morality is very beautiful. The rest is easy to understand. That itself clarifies that hearing a lot is to understand the meaning and words of all the scriptures. The phrase "Dharma holder" is because he has a special memory, which is to show that it has not declined completely. Having wisdom and...

The reason for saying "ground" is that by relying on it, one can obtain wisdom arising from hearing, etc. Abiding is respect for learning, because the sutras say that this is its state. "They should not be slandered by anyone" means that gods, humans, and other beings will never engage in slandering them, because it is said, "Like gold ornaments from the Jambu River." Ornaments are ornaments made by virtuous artisans. The so-called gold of the Jambu River refers to extremely fine gold that has been transformed. There are two situations in which one would be slandered: when it is not made and when the material is inferior, but it has neither of these. Whatever dwells near the inside of the Jambu tree is the gold of the Jambu River, and the gold of the Jambu River means extremely fine. In order to show the faults and benefits of not having and having many hearings, etc., it is said, "If one infers by form," etc. The noble Lotus Color made King Bright King very happy with his beautiful voice. In order to make offerings to him, he came to him together with Ananda. Seeing that his appearance was extremely ugly, he felt very sad, placed the offerings in front of him, and returned. After that, he spoke these five verses that the Buddha had spoken in the past. "Whoever" refers to sentient beings, such as Bright King. Because he did not have much hearing, nor did he cultivate his mind, nor did he ignite the fire of wisdom. "Inferring by form" means seeing others and completely judging them only by their color and shape, and having them measured by others, that is, recognizing merit and fault by beautiful and ugly appearances. "I" refers to the noble Lotus Color showing himself. The meaning of "If one knows my form, it is external knowledge, not the inner mind." The so-called "measuring by sound" means following beautiful sounds, recognizing merit by beautiful sounds, and also recognizing faults by ugly colors. In order to show that inverted cognition is the cause of affliction.
