"The cause of holding onto strife, because of patience." This phrase is because it is the cause of the very nature of all strife. A match in strife is one of equal strength, enduring their words. If I cannot endure the harsh words of this person, then this person will not endure my words either. In that way, it will turn into a great and prolonged strife. Therefore, one performs the act of pacifying fear through patience. "Regarding inferior words" this phrase means that enduring the harsh words of any evil meaning or extremely inferior sentient being is called supreme patience. Relying on that supreme patience, that person becomes a noble being, meaning they become the essence of sentient beings. Therefore, the Buddha and their Shravaka disciples do not show themselves to be superior through lineage, clan, or craft, but rather show themselves to be endowed with qualities such as patience. Patience is also supreme, expressed through the word "mostly" in the manner of distinguisher and distinguished. So, if someone threatens others, thinking, "I am the king," shouldn't they be threatened? To show this, it is said, "After a child becomes angry," and so on. Here, the topic is also changed. In Jeta Grove, the son of a Brahmin named Asilibaka said to the Bhagavan, "You are the king, the king." Therefore, the Buddha spoke these words. "The child thinks they will win" this phrase means that even in a state of defeat, the child thinks they are the victor. What did they do? It is said, "After becoming angry, they spoke harsh words." Driven by anger, they spoke meaningless words, but this is merely a conventional statement. Ultimately, that person is always victorious, meaning that if one hears what should not be said by others and can endure it, that person is always victorious, meaning they are always noble. This is for the sake of being praised by the noble ones, for accumulating the accumulation of merit and obtaining its extraordinary result. To show the benefit of abandoning faults such as anger, it is said, "Speak truthfully," and so on. The elder in Shravasti.

Once upon a time, there was a monk who was very stingy and deceitful. When it was time to sew summer clothes, he was close to doing mending work. He thought, "If I do this here, those who practice brahmacharya will see and come to beg." So, he went to the monastery grounds and began to do it. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, in order to test his stinginess, came from the sky by means of supernatural power and begged. The man said, "I will give you a small bowl." After saying this, no matter how much dye was put in, the small bowl would not fill up. Then, he said, "Since you promised to fill the bowl, give it to me!" The old man became angry and went before the Blessed One, requesting him to discipline him, and spoke three verses. Others say that it was Mahāmaudgalyāyana who requested the Blessed One to discipline him. "Speak truthfully" means that one should speak without perversion. This shows that one should refrain from deceiving others and so on. Or, leading out from that, it is because it becomes the cause of virtuous speech. "Do not be angry" means not to be wrathful. It means not to remain in a state completely bound by anger. Because not being angry is the cause of attendants. "Even if small, give when asked" means that to the poor, one should give as much as possible, even small things like food. Even if others do not ask for food and so on, one should understand their intention and give, because it is the cause of obtaining great enjoyment. "One who is endowed with these three aspects" means a person who is endowed with a place or thing, with the characteristics of truthful speech and so on, as just mentioned. It is to be determined that these three themselves are not like fire and so on that would invade. This shows the cause of non-perversion and the cause of non-affliction arising from it. These three verses show the object of merit arising from ethics, meditation, and generosity. Thus, ethics is primarily truthfulness, and non-anger is not primary. Meditation is just grasping that point. The gods

Go to the presence of... This means going to the presence of the gods, such as the retinue of the Four Great Kings. Going to a place is expressed elsewhere as going into the Sangha and into the midst of the Sangha. That is the meaning. Among them, there are two types of gods. The first is the non-meditative, scattered gods. These are also of two types: those who dwell on the earth and those who dwell in palaces. Among them, giving brings one closer to the gods who dwell on the earth. By truth, one draws near to the gods who dwell in palaces. By meditation, one draws near to the gods who are in meditative equipoise. In short, here it is said that the four aspects are completely pure, namely the actions of speech, mind, and body, and their result is completely pure, corresponding in order. In order to settle in the place, it is said, "By the power of anger," and so on. Speaking words without anger means speaking truthfully and without afflictions. To be at ease in the assembly means to be fearless in the Sangha, for the sake of being vast and supreme. Why should one speak words without anger? Because it is said, "A person overwhelmed by the power of anger." A person who is completely seized by the entanglement of hatred does not even understand his own benefit. That is to say, he does not even know how to benefit himself. Why? Because it is to show that there is nothing incomplete in the Sangha, and to show what is not inverted, and giving, etc., or benefiting others is giving. To show that whoever benefits himself and indulges in anger is harmful. Therefore, it is said, "Whoever," and so on. Whoever is angry and then angry again, that one becomes a sinner. That is to say, whoever is angry with a being who is entangled in hatred, then, because of the harm, the sin of being angry with him again will increase, because of accumulating evil deeds. Similarly, this is not without certainty, because he will still cause harm. To be angry and not angry again, that is
