The name "Victorious Abandonment" means that as a distinction of practicing antidotes, one must also abandon pride in the continuum. Here, pride refers to the thought of clinging to "I," because it is the main cause of all subtle afflictions and an obstacle to qualities and so forth. "Completely bound, completely transcending all existence" means that because it arises involuntarily, these nine completely binding ties must also be abandoned, which leads to detachment from desire in the three realms. To explain the benefits of the previously shown actions, it is said, "Those who have no attachment to name and form." Those refer to individuals. In "name and form," name refers to the four aggregates such as feeling, and form refers to the aggregate of form. Having no attachment means that the mind does not become attached to them, because it is free from craving for them. "Because there is nothing" means that there are no objects of manifest desire, and because the actions and afflictions of craving have been abandoned, it is free from elaboration. "Does not fall after" means not following after, not being bound after, and not becoming afflicted. Attachment is turmoil, the distraction caused by it. Or it is the fault of existence, such as birth. To show that abandoning anger and so forth leads to obtaining happiness, it is said, "Immediately after birth," and so on. A certain god asked: "What should be abandoned immediately after birth? What should be prevented after it arises? What should be completely abandoned by teaching? What, when realized, leads to happiness?" To this, the Buddha replied: "Immediately after birth" means just as soon as it arises in the mind. "Abandoned" means completely discarded. Because anger is abandoned as soon as it arises, it empties out afflictions, like a wild animal entering a pen. "After arising, abandon desire" means that the completely binding ties that arise afterward should also be prevented by their antidotes as soon as they arise, abandoned far away, severing the continuum, uprooting them, like speaking sweetly but harboring resentment inwardly. "With steadfastness, completely abandon ignorance" means that the wise should completely abandon delusion.

Because of having wisdom, abandoning faults is stable. "By seeing suffering" means seeing the noble truths such as suffering as they are, showing the cause of abandoning ignorance. Happiness is like abandoning the three ogres, becoming happy because there is no fear; if craving is exhausted, happiness will be attained. In other places it is said, if one realizes the truth. It refers to the meaning of seeing the four noble truths. In order to show the other benefits of abandoning anger, both worldly and beyond worldly, it is said, "If one abandons anger," and so on. What should be abandoned to sleep peacefully? What should be abandoned to have no sorrow? By what single Dharma here, if subdued, is Gautama praised? This was asked by Indra, and this was spoken. Abandoning anger is to discard it. "Sleeping peacefully" means falling asleep without suffering. Or it means abiding without harm, sleeping peacefully and waking peacefully, and even when sleeping, the gods will protect. This is said to those who have attained loving-kindness. "If one abandons anger, one will not suffer." It means one will not feel pain, there is no pain inside, and one will not experience sorrow, because by abandoning it, wishes are fulfilled and one is separated from seeing gravel, etc. "Anger" and "subdue" should be used together here. Why? In order to show the cause of the special reason. It is said to be the root of poison, because it is the cause of destruction, so quickly separate from desire, because it is a very great fault, so it is said in the sutra. Regarding "destroying happiness," happiness is pleasing, good conduct and agreement with the mind, etc., by destroying this is destroying happiness, that is, cutting off good conduct and pleasing things. "Bhikshu" means beggar, therefore it is shown that destroying happiness is habit, so in the morning and evening it is also taught and reiterated to the bhikshus who are to be tamed, anger should be completely abandoned even when at home, and especially when renounced from home, this is what is to be expressed. Subdue! You will be praised by the noble ones.
