English

It is said that this was requested by a certain deity. Some say that it was taken from a scripture called "Residence." In the phrase "Whoever relies on shame," "relies" means to become accustomed. "Shame" means having a sense of shame, meaning "one who has shame." "Whoever" refers to any person who has shame and can eliminate evil, which shows the accumulation of discipline. Because one can maintain discipline by having shame, it is said that if someone has no shame at all, various evil actions will arise. The phrase "wisdom well abiding" refers to the accumulation of wisdom and samadhi. These three show the noble path, because this is the nature of the three aggregates. By practicing it, the senses that are not beneficial will be tamed. Eliminating means abandoning, that is, that person commits evil or sins. The phrase "A good horse is like a whip" is like a tamed horse that does not need to be whipped. "Is" means "that is," saying that this is a good horse, not a bad horse. In order to show the benefit of taming, "Taming goes to the battlefield" and so on are said. This is the power of King Geduma Bu Rabnang, for example, the great king will especially ride a tamed and intelligent horse to go to war, not a bad horse, so these words were said. Taming is taming and abandoning the untamed. "Go to the battlefield" is the place where horses play and gather. Or, "go to the battlefield" is the place of battle. "Acting and" means entering. The phrase "The king especially rides the tamed" means that, indeed, the king will especially ride a beneficial and tamed horse without hesitation. Just as it is said, "Taming is the best among people," among all people, taming is the most excellent, because this is the basis of praise. Taming is what the noble ones aspire to and rely on, abandoning and advancing on the battlefield with subtle words. Just as that and its characteristics.

Now, what needs to be understood is that "enduring harsh words" means that harsh words are the opposite of what should be said. Even if one hears lies and harsh words from others, one can endure without wavering, and that is subduing. Or, harsh words especially refer to praise or slander, saying these will generate attachment and hatred. Here, "speech" is only used as a representative, and it also includes enduring insults and so on. Like this, only "speech" is mentioned here because in most cases, there will be speech. To illustrate that subduing oneself is superior to subduing everything, "among elephants" and so on are mentioned. In the Cool Grove Cemetery, there were about twenty people named Shronakotis, who possessed and dwelt in diligence in the place of subduing themselves. The Blessed One, dwelling together with many monks, saw them with his divine eye and immediately went there. At that time, in that place, someone was taming the king's mules and elephants, so the Buddha used this as an example and spoke fourteen verses. "Whatever" means whatever, that is, this world. Taming mules means training mules to be able to be ridden and so on. "Good horses and famous steeds" refers to horses that possess qualities, are of noble birth, and are highly praised. "Sindhu" means born from the Sindhu region, or it means a horse born from a good place. "Elephant among elephants" refers to the greatest elephant among elephants that possess characteristics. "Subduing oneself is the most supreme" means that subduing oneself refers to subduing oneself, because subduing oneself is superior to subduing mules and so on. Why? Because it is said, "Those who tame." Because those who are the cause of taming mules and so on cannot obtain that land, that is, they can only reach a certain part of that place. "Whoever can tame their own mind well" refers to whose mind can be completely tamed.

Therefore, this is called "the wise will obtain," meaning the wise will realize. To show the nature of the earth, it is said "peaceful," meaning free from sin and close to peace. Because if the senses are subdued, then non-action and evil deeds will be close to peace. To prove that the root of suffering is sin, and without sin there is no suffering, it is said "the end of suffering," meaning that because there are no undesirable results of ripening, etc., it will come to an end. To prove that if one is not overwhelmed by sorrow, one can diligently practice mindfulness of the body, etc., but not for the nature tormented by suffering, therefore it is "mindful," meaning having mindfulness belonging to the body. Because of the decline of mindfulness, this is the path of evil destinies, because mindfulness has not been cultivated. As it is said: "The true view of worldly people, where does the great one have it?" and so on. To show that, it is said "will abandon," meaning completely abandon. What is it? It is the path, meaning the three evil destinies. After that, being born in a good destiny, nourished by mindfulness and becoming a vessel, manifesting the path of seeing, therefore, to show that one will abandon the bonds of affliction to be abandoned by the path of seeing, it is said "having cut the bonds." After cutting those bonds, the ordinary being will pass away from here and will obtain the same fruit as the noble ones. After that, to show that by abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned by the practice in the desire realm, one will be liberated from all suffering and unpleasantness, it is said "liberated from all suffering." Everything is also suffering, which is the collection of holding karma. One will surely be liberated from it, and after that, to show that by abandoning the conforming union of the ground of equanimity, one will obtain nirvana with remainder, it is said "will abandon all conforming unions." That is, cutting off the attainment of the nine conforming unions. After that, a little time
