Having purified the mind with the merit of taming, like a good horse, possessing a good nature and a tamed essence, therefore, after that, starting from the category of horses, it is said "good horse" and so on. Or, the instruments of the mind are of two kinds: non-sentient and sentient. Among them, non-sentient are flowers and so on. The other is sentient, which are horses and so on. After showing the category without attachment like flowers, after that, the category without attachment like horses is established, therefore, it is said "good horse" and so on. On the other side of the place called "Yul Shos Na", monks had a dispute and stayed there. There, great beings like elephant kings themselves do not argue, and they also make others return from the dispute. At that time, the monks pleaded to the Blessed One. At that time, King Gsal Gyal, who tames horses, rode on the best of horses and came to that direction. The Blessed One then spoke two verses using that analogy. Goodness means understanding affairs and being well-tamed by lineage, but a bad, wild horse will not be tamed, nor will it obtain the good name of goodness. It is said in the Jewel Horse Sutra that it can become a tamed place in one day. Because it walks quickly, it is a horse. "Whipped" means being struck with a wooden stick or the like. "Forceful" means the arising of diligence and the arising of joy, like a tree with blossoming flowers and radiating light. Because of goodness, what will happen by merely threatening with whips and so on? "Fear" means truly generating disgust and praising, and warning not to be whipped due to carelessness, so it raises its two ears. In order to show the meaning to be proven by the analogy, "faith" is mentioned, which means possessing the power of faith. Like that, this shows possessing diligence, therefore, pure believers will be urged by the whip of the teachings, and because of fear of sin, they will quickly enter into virtuous deeds.

And, that which is called "having," is possessing both the conduct of the noble ones and quiescence. "The dharmas are completely determined," means realizing suchness, which is to be known by reason. "That" means such a sentient being. If accompanied by patience, then one abides equally in two kinds of happiness and possesses them, and whatever taming of the senses is, the happiness that comes from being accompanied by patience is that itself. Patience is enduring the harm done by others, and so on. If accompanied, it is happiness, that is, even if there is great discord with others, one does not harm oneself or others, which is the meaning of this. Or, turning away from harming others, and causing others to generate joy. "Abandoning all existence" means abandoning and completely discarding the three realms, in the manner of uprooting the afflictions from their root. "Here" means in this very dharma that is seen, or in this teaching of the Buddha. "Protector" means that the sole Lord of Dharma, the Bhagavan, is the protector of all dharmas, according to the words of the Vaibhashikas. Or, because he shows without perversion and benefits others, he is a protector, meaning he abides with remainder and accomplishes the benefit of others. "Abandoning all existence" refers to entering nirvana without remainder, which is shown as a means for those who wish to abandon the remainder of suffering. "Having knowledge and feet" means that knowledge is the three, such as recollection of past lives. "Having feet" is discipline. That is the Pratimoksha vows, etc., because it is the basis of all qualities. "Having" means one who has not lost knowledge and feet. "Having mindfulness" means manifesting mindfulness of the body, etc., and by its power, one has knowledge and feet. By focusing on the uncontaminated, one abandons samsara, and all suffering means all conditioned phenomena. Taming the senses going first means abandoning all subtle increase, and for this going first, the benefits of the mundane and supramundane are proclaimed, therefore, taming practice, etc., are spoken.
