And so forth are mentioned. In Rajagriha, there lived the wanderer Niga and Pangnaskya. Niga, upon hearing the verses from Ashvajit, "How is the world," attained the fruit of stream-entry. Pangnaskya, upon hearing it twice, became the same. Then, they both, with two hundred and fifty attendants, went to see the Blessed One. Seeing the venerable Ashvajit from afar, they thought, "We should honor the one from whom we heard the Dharma." So they approached him, and a Brahmin who had bathed and was worshipping fire was also there. Then, seeing them coming from afar with their retinue, the Blessed One spoke four verses. "Whoever," refers to a person. "All things in consciousness," refers to transforming into realization, etc., by hearing the Dharma such as explanations. "Old or," refers to reaching the age of eighty, etc. "Or having accumulated wealth, etc. "Young also," refers to being close to the age of seven. "Or having diminished wealth, etc. Therefore, honoring," refers to being led by offerings and recognizing him as a guru. "Having prostrated," refers to being worthy of reverence, because in all ways they are in accordance with his words. Here an example is shown. "Like fire," for example, the Brahmin worships three kinds of fire. "With purity," refers to removing the dirt of the body with bathing, etc., because the Brahmin, after bathing, begins to practice meditation, etc. "Serving," refers to being satisfied by being near, that is, robes, alms, medicine, etc., just as the Brahmin relies on fire, using ghee, barley, etc. What is the ultimate Dharma? To distinguish this, it is said, "Taught by the perfectly enlightened Buddha." It refers to what is spoken and taught by the perfectly enlightened Buddha. The rest has already been explained. To show that by striving in accordance with the teaching, one can transcend all harm, when the Brahmin

Ze, and so on. The Blessed One was dwelling in the hermitage of the Yaksha Vakula in the grove of the country of Makula, together with the attendant Venerable Cowherd. Then, in the darkness of the night, the Blessed One slowly and gradually walked outside the monastery from a visible place when it was raining and lightning. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, thought: "I should manifest this place as a house of the nature of lapis lazuli." Having thought thus, he manifested it accordingly, and then went to where the Blessed One was and walked after him. At that time, the people of Magadha protected their children, thinking: "This is because they are afraid of the Yaksha Vakula." The Dharma nature is that as long as the Buddha, the Blessed One, remains, and as long as there are monks who serve him, there will be no (fear). Then, the Venerable Cowherd thought: "The Buddha, the Blessed One, has been walking for a long time. I should put on a woolen garment on my head and walk outside, so that the Yaksha Vakula will be afraid of these." Vakula, that is, I am the Shramana Yaksha Vakula, thus he proclaimed widely. Venerable ones, such a person also exists in this Vinaya. Thus he proclaimed widely. Kausika, awaken! The lineage of Gautama, striving in this way, will also purify the Dharma for a long time. He spoke six verses. "When" means at any time. "The Dharmas" means the teachings and the practices. "Gone to the other shore" means having reached the end, in order to attain omniscience. Or, "the Dharmas" refers to all contaminated things. "The Brahmin has gone to the other shore." "Gone to the other shore" means the Tathagata. "At that time" means at that very time. "Even from a single meat-eater" means the chief meat-eater, the great meat-eater. "Eating meat as food is a meat-eater," and the word "also" is to include those or other classes of demons, etc., that cause external fears. Vakula.

It is named Bakula. 'Extremely Transcended' means particularly surpassing, meaning that for this, it cannot generate fear. The Blessed One, having attained the knowledge of cessation, not only is free from fears such as flesh-eating, but also, in order to show that feelings, which are equally possessed with the cause of samsara, are also exhausted, therefore, it is said, 'At that time.' 'That' refers to the one who has transcended all. 'Seeing' means seeing things as they are with transcendental wisdom. 'All feelings' refers to all feelings that depend on existence, that is, the feelings of the three realms. 'Becoming extinguished' means not accomplishing manifestation, because the afflictions associated with habits, which are related to it, have been abandoned. By abandoning the place, it shows the abandonment of dwelling, so it is said, 'At that time, those outflows.' As it is said, 'Being comfortable with pleasure causes one to be put to sleep by desire,' and so on, the content is very extensive. In order to show that after abandoning the afflictions, the actions done by it have also been abandoned, it is said, 'At that time, those conditions.' That is, the actions born from outflows, which mature again in existence, are called conditions. Or it could be the four causes, etc., because it is declared without the collection of conditions. By having no cause, it shows having no result. 'All bonds' means that because it binds correctly, it is called a bond, meaning that the cause of birth itself is the connection. Extremely transcended from birth, old age, and death, connecting 'itself,' the state of the womb and the characteristics arising from it are birth, the state of complete transformation is old age, and the cutting off of similar kinds is death. 'Extremely transcended' means surpassing, that is, because it is definitely abandoned. The word 'and' includes sorrow and wailing, etc. By completely understanding all phenomena, the fruit of completely transcending from death, etc., with examples, is explained, such as 'the sun in the daytime,' etc. In Rajagriha, the Blessed One performed the fifteenth-day Uposatha, and at night, facing the door of the Uposatha, named Nandi Mukha.
