and showed separation. To show that if one abandons anger, etc., one is secluded. What is renunciation, etc.? A monk, fearing the assembly, lived in the hollow of a Pippala tree on Vulture Peak Mountain, and it started from there. Having mixture is mixture. Negating it is dwelling without mixture, meaning practicing alone without mixture. If one completely abandons mixing with what? It is renunciation and householder, householder is living together. Renunciation is without a home. Similarly, both refers to the two, householder and renunciation. For example, some people are very fond of home, such as Madzarananda and others. Some people like both, such as the helpless food giver and others. To show that one also lives in monasteries and regards monasteries, etc., as most supreme. It is said "not from home", because having the state of coming from home is coming from home, which is to regard walking near the residence as most supreme. If it is not like that, it is not from home, showing the physical seclusion by not liking the residence, and then explaining the mental seclusion. It is said "small desire", because one is satisfied with coarse Dharma garments, etc. To show that even if one lives in the Sangha, one is a Brahmin. To show that if one abandons craving and its equipment, one can attain seclusion. Therefore, it is said "future" etc. In Shravasti, a married man named Victorious in Battle, holding a baby boy, came to him. He didn't say anything, and she didn't speak either. He placed the child where he could crawl. He said, "I have renounced and am separated from desire." Then he picked up the child and left, and from that began the narration of two verses. "Future" refers to a former friend who came before, which is to be close and practice. "Dislike" means not wanting, not being satisfied, meaning not experiencing the pleasure arising from desire.

English

They have no sorrow. The term "without sorrow" means not being sad at heart and not dispelling inner grief. Why? Because it is said here that sexual intercourse, that is, being separated from the attachment of desire, especially refers to victory on the battlefield. Just as the image king overcame King Ajatashatru, because he was born, so it was done. Or, it is to conquer and destroy the battlefield of the enemy of afflictions, because it is free from desire in the three realms. Or, it is for the sake of universal coming, especially for the evil destinies. The special meaning here refers to craving. Arriving there is being born. Not rejoicing means especially not being attached, abandoning and eliminating. One who wants to benefit oneself should recognize it as if it were a very poisonous food, even if one is very hungry. The past means that which arises from the lineage, that is, ceasing or about to cease. Without sorrow means that because it is recognized as suffering, it is separated from the essence of suffering, and therefore true joy arises. What is that? It is said to be liberation. From what is it liberated? From sexual intercourse. Because this causes attachment, it is attachment, meaning to obtain. Abandoning it is abandoning it. How can it be without sorrow? Like this, it has no sorrow. It is said that because it has no sorrow in its heart, how can it experience it? Just as there is no heat without fire, where can there be such sorrow? Its cause is separated from dust. What is said here is being free from dust, that is, the dust of afflictions such as desire brings sorrow, and abandoning it is being separated from it. Because all dust is separated, all strife is separated, and thus the state beyond sorrow is attained. Peace means having the nature of the remaining aggregates. As it is said, who can abandon craving and so on? Like what is said, "Who is the one with few desires," and so on. This begins with a meditating monk living under a tree in a solitary place. Not healing others.

English

That place is because it has completely abandoned the pursuit of discipline. The so-called few desires are because the mind is solitary. Subduing is because the senses are subdued, and because the fruit of solitude is subduing. The so-called dwelling in essence is because it shows Nirvana and is especially liberated. That itself dwells in the Sangha, which is to practice the path. The so-called exhaustion of outflows is because it has abandoned afflictions. The so-called elimination of faults is because it has abandoned the path of the fruit of rebirth. In order to show that the person who has exhausted and eliminated faults has neither this shore nor the other shore, it is said what is called this shore and so on. Many Brahmins and other creatures besides them cross from this shore of Sthulakoshta to the other shore, and come back again. At that time, many lay practitioners came to his presence, sat down, and they began to talk, and the Brahmins also attended and crossed back, and so did others. Some of them asked, how much can be approximately called a Brahmin? At that time, some people started to say extensively from birth from the womb and so on. Those people went to the Blessed One and said two verses that started from those things. Others say that in the victorious grove, who is the Brahmin, who is the one who goes to the other shore, this is said from the demon. The so-called other shore is living far away, and there is no that on the other shore, because it has abandoned the six external ayatanas (six senses). The so-called this shore is because it has also abandoned the inside. There is no other shore or this shore, which means there is neither. Because some people are particularly attached to the outside, some are attached to the inside, and some are attached to both, therefore three kinds are mentioned here. The so-called reaching the end is that which has no other shore etc. is itself reaching the other shore, which means reaching the ultimate. Whose is it? It is said to be of all dharmas, because it has reached the other shore of the twelve ayatanas (twelve entrances). The so-called all all, like this, the sutra shows the twelve ayatanas.
