within. "Near" is the remainder of the sentence. The sound of "mountain" refers to the intermediate state of samsara itself. "Completely ruined" means particularly ruined and attached, which is the meaning of falling. Where and how? Before obtaining the exhaustion of outflows. This is said to mean abandoning afflictions. Possessing ascetic practices such as naked conduct is said here to mean that the accomplisher is born in Avici hell. The exhaustion of outflows will abandon feeling, and the cessation of feeling will cease craving, so the exhaustion of feeling is mentioned with this statement. Being free from desire from the peak of existence, abandoning the cause of existence, feeling, is because abandoning views precedes abandoning all feelings, so to show that all feelings are abandoned. The term "one-sided view" is mentioned. Desiring to purify sins, one closely enjoys and clings. That is not through the path, but it shows that clinging to the wrong path is ignorance. "Evil-minded ones" refers to those who have the evil mind that thinks that one must necessarily emerge from existence through existence. If one does not abandon outflows, it is shown that one is ruined from distinction, not having attained the supreme state, which means not having attained nirvana. Without doing the exhaustion of outflows and so on, it is shown that there is no need for hair and so on. It is said, "Evil-minded one, what is the use of your hair?" and so on. A young Brahmin who lived in a stacked house by the Balgumati River regarded his hair as like cow hair, wrapping it in cloth to deceive people. To tame him, the Blessed One went in that direction, and when he saw him, he came to the Blessed One, and began from there. "What is yours?" refers to the shape of your collection of hair, what is the use of long hair like a snake? Because one does not see the benefit it has done, and in order to obtain close suffering. "Evil-minded" means inverted wisdom, showing that this was done out of ignorance. "What is the use of wearing your antelope skin?" means what use do you have for clothes made from the possessions of mountain goats? Because there is no need. This is outwardly beautiful.

It is shown that "your inside is very bad", which means that your mind is very defiled, because it is stained by afflictions such as desire. "But the outside is cleaned very well," which refers to decorating or dressing the body with the appearance of an ascetic. If it is thought that those Brahmins can be purified by signs such as hair, is it because they have signs such as hair? Therefore, "Brahmin by caste" and so on are mentioned. In front of the Blessed One, a person with a hair knot crossed the Jaya River and came and sat down, saying, "O Gautama, the person with a hair knot is a Brahmin by caste." Therefore, these two verses were spoken, and upon hearing them, he became reverent, renounced, and attained the fruit of an Arhat. A Brahmin is truly a Brahmin by accumulating merits, not by holding bark and so on, which is the summary meaning here. "By lineage" refers to the lineage of descendants such as sons and grandsons. "By caste" refers to having the main caste. These castes and lineages and so on exist conventionally, but not ultimately, in order to fully show and see the situation of others, in this way one is not a Brahmin. As it is extensively explained: Not by caste, not by lineage, nor by wealth and glory. Even if a Candala abides in the right way, who is steadfast on the battlefield, that is a Brahmin. Patience, discipline, etc., giving, truth, purity, mindfulness, compassion, and being a wise expert in the view of existence, such a person is the characteristic of a Brahmin. Not being the work of a Brahmin, engaging in others is a downfall. Most hypocritical actions are evil deeds, whatever race of people, if they have Dharma, discipline, truth, and constant diligence, I consider that person to be a Brahmin, not becoming a Brahmin by false appearances. And so on. If so, then who is a Brahmin? It is said, "Whoever is truthful and possesses Dharma," truth refers to speaking non-inverted words. Dharma is non-harming, because it avoids harming beings and so on.
