In the country of Kausambi, the monks were distracted while begging for food due to a great famine, and their bodies and minds were not at peace. They even held on to whatever they had obtained. After the famine passed, they continued to act in the same way. In order to make them abandon this habit, the Buddha spoke six verses. By making it close to peace, it attains peace. Being associated with and related to that peace of the discipline of morality, high seclusion, and contentment, etc., this is the peace of mind here. Or, peace is the peace of body, speech, and mind, and that monk is one who especially values the antidote. In order to show it through the action itself, the so-called "cutting off things" refers to the cause of things that are the nature of karma and afflictions, which is cut off, and its meaning is to abandon the cause of existence. By abandoning the cause, it is shown that the result is abandoned. The cycle of birth is completely abandoned. This means completely abandoning the birth symbolized by existence. Why? Because, like this, he will no longer have rebirth. If he does not abandon it, what will happen? It is shown that even if there are remnants like that, he is still liberated from the bondage of Mara, which is "he is liberated from the bondage of Mara." The discipline of morality is a prerequisite for entering. Among them, the guarding of the senses to be practiced is explained as: "The mind has become without outflows." This is guarding the senses from objects, because attachment arising from objects also leads to the derangement of the senses. Therefore, the benefit of abandoning it is stated: "The craving for existence has been cut off." It means, from the three existences, which existence has been uprooted? It is shown that abandoning craving is abandoning the benefit of desire. From the teachings shown by "whoever" etc., another joyful person obtained the fruit of Arhat, and he was very happy and specially spoke these words, saying: I have crossed over the mire of desire. The Buddha assented to him and spoke seven verses. "Whoever" refers to the monk. "Mire" refers to desire, because it is in accordance with the nature of drowning. It is also said in the sutra, monks, mire is a synonym for desire. Therefore, it has been well crossed.

Arising is the complete arising, which is the past. Disturbance is destroying and abandoning. What is called "village thorns" refers to worldly things such as gain and respect. Because they harm the Dharmakaya, they have the same nature as thorns. From desire, it is shown to be free from attachment, and from the upper realms, it is shown to be free from attachment. The exhaustion of attachment is the subsequent attainment. This means that abandoning attachment and so on is not for the purpose of taming others. What is meant by "whoever is subdued" is to subdue with power and completely abandon the thorns of the village. Even gains and so on made by others cannot change it, and one will not cause harm oneself. In order to show that one has a compassionate mind, "reproach and" is spoken. What is meant by "killing and binding" refers to killing and various harms, and is connected with "subduing." This shows dwelling in virtuous conduct. What is meant by "whoever dwells like a mountain king" shows dwelling on the path of accumulation. What is meant by "not deceiving" is that one cannot rashly speak casually in the manner of attaining the path. This shows dwelling on the path of no more learning. What is meant by "suffering and happiness" is because sandalwood and wormwood are the same. What is meant by "unwavering" is not moving and not changing. It is shown that whoever can be so unchanging can abandon the other shore that is not the other shore, and not others. "Not slandering" and so on are spoken. The near shore that is not the other shore is not wishing to have distinctions, and is a common term for the world. The other shore is bliss and peace, and is a common term for Nirvana with remainder. After hearing these words, a monk became frightened, rose from his seat, and said to the Blessed One: Venerable, by whom is the non-other shore abandoned? By whom is the other shore attained? After making this request, the Blessed One spoke these words. What is meant by "whoever does not slander" refers to whoever does not inflict on others, nor does it arise, such as slandering existing entities by saying there is no suffering, and so on.
