Loving-kindness towards beings is compassion, and the mind of benefiting others and wanting to benefit others is loving-kindness. Therefore, its characteristics are shown. From this, there is a state of abiding, because loving-kindness manifests and abides many times. This shows the method of not fully engaging in afflictions and shows the method of permanently abandoning afflictions, called joy, because faith is obtained after understanding. Through the power of cultivating loving-kindness, one enters the path of seeing happiness, and from this, faith is obtained after understanding. So, what is rejoiced in? It is said to rejoice in the Buddha's teachings, meaning the path taught by the Buddha, called the Three Jewels. This is because it is the essence of the path of liberation. Saving oneself from the lower realms means protecting oneself from the three lower realms. Here, an example is shown, called from the mud, for example, just as an intoxicated and unrestrained elephant falls into the mud, and relies on the trees near the bank, grasping them with its hands, etc., and thus frees itself from the predicament. Having shown liberation from the lower realms through the power of loving-kindness, now, in order to show emergence from the desire realm, it is said, "A monk abiding in loving-kindness," etc. The term "shake off" means to abandon. Sin is non-virtue with undesirable consequences. Phenomena are things, form, etc. "Like tree leaves" means like the leaves of a tree. "Wind" means wind with force. Just as the wind causes the leaves of a tree to fall, so is the desire realm. After that, the form and formless realms are shown, and "will be obtained" means will be realized. There are four levels. Peace is abandoning faults such as suffering and unpleasantness. "Cessation of formations" is because it is the way of abandoning the aggregates that operate in form. Peace is because there is no complete confusion arising from form and consciousness. "Looking without satisfaction" means satisfaction because it causes satisfaction, because other things hold it. Because it is satisfaction itself, it is satisfaction. Negating it is not.

unsatisfied. Because of completely grasping, there is no satisfaction. Whatever is not satisfied by seeing is summarized by "is." When it is very clear because it is free from all obscurations, it is known as nirvana. Therefore, it is taught that if one becomes free from desire from the formless realm, one will attain nirvana with remainder. "Manifestation" means to attain correctly. "Exhaustion of all fetters" refers to following connection, meaning abandoning all bondages. How does it become like that? It is said gradually, which shows that it is intended to be abandoned gradually, not all at once. Therefore, it shows that one is inclined towards the realm of nirvana with remainder. "Impossible" means impermissible. What is impermissible? It is said to be completely degenerating, meaning transforming. From where does it degenerate? Like this, because it is close to nirvana, it means that the yogi who has abandoned all fetters in the state of samadhi is only close to liberation, and is accomplished as the nature of abiding nearby, not samsara and so on. By what order is it obtained to abandon all fetters, and it is impossible to completely degenerate? It is said "mind is joyful" and so on. The noble Magadha, who lived in the city called Purna-vadana, invited the Blessed One. The great ascetic Wood-skin spoke because he saw a special form. Here, for the time being, he relied on the superior one from the very beginning, so he said these words. Joy
