The term "attachment" refers to turning one's back on things that are in accordance with the enjoyment of desire. The term "place of anger" refers to the place where hatred arises. The term "non-contention" means without extreme anger, which indicates detachment from desire, because it precedes it, thus detachment from desire from the upper realms. The term "if the mind is like that" refers to what was previously shown, because it is impossible. In order to show the order of taming the mind, it is said, "Do not slander, do not harm," and so on. All perfectly complete Buddhas protect, but the Shravakas think that it is enough to just keep the precepts, and abandon ordination, always slandering with their minds and harming them, therefore, individual liberation is shown first. Others, in Shravasti, many monks saw a dead dog, and it smelled a bad smell with its nose, and some people spoke evil words, saying who put the feces on the king's highway. The venerable Ananda praised, saying that the dog's teeth were as white as conch shells, and after hearing these words, he spoke. Slander is ridicule, proclaiming the faults of others, and eliminating slander is not slandering. The term "do not harm" means that one should not do any harm or think of others in one's heart, let alone with one's body. After practicing other behaviors well, it is said in relation to the discipline of self-nature that is truly received, "Be bound by the discipline of individual liberation," without discipline there is no sign of individual liberation. Discipline is what is definitely desired, it is behavior, it is the nature of the seven abandonments. One should also know the measure, the term "should also know the measure" means knowing the limit. Food is eating and drinking, as it is said, therefore one should observe one's own ability and eat, not too much or too little, according to this measure. Similarly, how much was taken from where, and how much to take. The term "this" refers to the nature of a mouthful of food, which indicates purity in all aspects of life. The term "boundary" refers to the distant place away from the place, which is the boundary.

, which means "monastery." The meaning of "dwelling place" is the place to reside. Here, the mind is symbolized to indicate the dwelling place. Some grasp the dwelling place simply by resting. After explaining the solitude of the body, the solitude of the mind is discussed. It says, "Practice yoga on the superior mind." This is because it is inseparable from practicing the four dhyanas. This is the teaching of the Buddha. It means that it was spoken by the Buddha. If someone enters the teaching of the Buddha as it is spoken, they will obtain the bliss free from defilements. What is that like? It speaks of "the characteristics of the mind," and so on. The mind is the form of characteristics such as eye consciousness, meaning that one thinks of the pure sign in the mind, which is a very pleasing form. Because there are forms such as smallness, this mind is afflicted, but consciousness is not afflicted. Cutting off eye consciousness and so on in this way is called being skilled in characteristics. Alternatively, the characteristic or connection of the mind is, as it is said, "Relying on the eye and form, eye consciousness arises." This is very extensive. Being skilled in that is realization, which is understanding. This shows that one is skilled in the meaning of the scriptures and is very learned. Therefore, one is skilled in antidotes and non-antidotes. Even if one is very learned, if one is distracted, one will not be able to function as it is. Therefore, solitude is explained in two ways: body and mind. The taste of solitude is thinking of impurity and so on in the mind and making it manifest. Obtaining that is realization. To show that if impurity and so on are accomplished, calm abiding is accomplished, "thought" is mentioned, which is meditation. Alternatively, the one who has this state of meditation is the thinker. "Diligent protector" means that one definitely protects completely, which is the virtue of the noble person. "Suffering" is a definitive word, meaning mindfulness. Therefore, having accomplished mindfulness, one can accomplish calm abiding. To show that mindfulness is practiced, "good mindfulness" is mentioned.
