Oṃ. What is it? It says, "Whoever desires to abandon happiness." For some, there is happiness that is even greater than happiness, that is, the happiness of being free from the lower realms, the peace of Nirvana. Whoever desires that happiness is one who desires to abandon happiness, because they have given up small pleasures. What is the purpose of doing and teaching in this way? The phrase "if abandoned" means to completely abandon and not increase. Small happiness is just a little happiness, it is inferior. "With steadfastness" means with wisdom. Showing its characteristics: "Seeing well," meaning, fully understanding and seeing for oneself. Abandoning happiness is definitely good, it is happiness without defilement. Showing the happiness of abandonment itself, it says, "Worldly desires are happiness," and so on. At the Vajra Throne, at night, he attained perfect enlightenment, and rising from that samadhi, he individually experienced the bliss of liberation, and spoke these three verses. Others say that the Blessed One, together with the assembly of śrāvakas, went to Śrāvastī for alms. At that time, King Prasenajit, who had no children, was playing and enjoying himself with cymbals, and the monks developed desire for it. Therefore, at that time, monks, do not develop desire for it. Why? Because desires are impermanent and unstable, it is said that it was spoken from here to here. "What is worldly desire and happiness?" This means the slight happiness that arises from the desires of the desire realm. What is "is"? It refers to the samadhi practiced in dhyana and the formless realms. The happiness that arises in the heavenly realms is the happiness of the heavenly realms. "Even one-sixteenth of the happiness of the exhaustion of craving," means abandoning that one-sixteenth part. All the worldly happiness previously mentioned is not equal to even one-sixteenth part, and such happiness cannot be obtained because it is impermanent. The sutra says, "Whatever is impermanent is suffering." Happiness and suffering are not the same, they exist like light and darkness. Why? Because, in this way, if craving is abandoned, it will lead to suffering.

In order to show that the responsibility of completely abandoning the burden will disappear, "burden" and so on are mentioned. The Blessed One extensively said, "Monks, I will tell you about the burden," and spoke two verses. "Definitely abandoned" means that it must be removed, that is, to definitely abandon and turn away from the heavy burden. "Heavy burden" is because it is always connected, and because great harm truly arises, so taking on the burden of the aggregates is very difficult to bear. "Will not take" means not approaching to take. "From others after" means that in other lives also the burden of the aggregates. If asked: From where? The answer is: Because the burden bears suffering. It means that grasping the aggregates is being harmed by all harms, and if so, it will be painful. "Abandoning the burden will be happy," because the burden of the aggregates is completely abandoned, using the phrase "no aggregates is the best of happiness" to explain. If asked: How can one not completely grasp existence from then on? The answer is: "Completely cut off all craving" is said, that is, to cut off from the root the bondage of pursuing the three realms. If asked: Why should craving be completely cut off? The answer is: "No longer go to future existence" is said, in order to make all bondages exhausted. If all craving is not cut off, then in addition to craving, there are bondages that are in harmony with the lower part and in harmony with the upper part, so there will be rebirth in samsara. Just like a sprout without a seed, the root of craving is bondage. Its root is the complete grasping of existence, from the root of defiled things craving arises. Not abandoning defiled things also said, "If all aggregates are completely understood," it means that after completely understanding all defiled things with wisdom, there is no dharma that is not understood, therefore it ends with suffering. "No going" means there is no taking and will not be completely grasped. "Future existence" means other lives, because being separated from craving is like a burnt seed, there will be no birth.
