As stated in the Salung. To show that if meditation is perfected, the mind will also be very happy to practice the unconditioned path, it says: "The seven branches of enlightenment, etc." It means that the branches of enlightenment such as mindfulness are the cause of attaining the enlightenment of extinction and non-arising. Thus it is said. Because it is uniquely unconditioned, the branches of enlightenment are shown here as the path of seeing. This arises through the power of practicing mindfulness closely. Because it is a sign of attaining magical powers, that is the path of cultivation, namely "The four miraculous legs, etc." Seventh, diligence, discernment, samadhi, etc. The eight branches of the path are the noble paths. In order to abide in the happiness of the present dharma, it is the path of no more learning and the unconditioned path. What is called joy is the arising of manifest joy. What is called "They eat alms in peace" refers to eating and drinking without fault, enjoying without debt. What is called "holding the Dharma garment" refers to the garments worn by those who uphold the precepts diligently. What is called "They walk in peace" refers to their walking and traveling also being peaceful and without fault. Where? It is mentioned "In the mountains and forests," the mountains refer to the mountains, and the forests refer to the solitary places. What is called "They obtain it" refers to obtaining and cultivating the path of present desire. What is called "abiding in peace" refers to the true arising of peace, possessing the joy of the present dharma. What is called "extinction in the present dharma" refers to experiencing the bliss of extinction of present desire in the nature of the present dharma, while one's own body still exists. Where does this come from? Like this, "Uniquely and all fears have been overcome," this is because all the near afflictions have been abandoned. How does one do this? "Transcending the craving for worldly realms," this is because even the root of afflictions and near afflictions—craving—has been uprooted. Because existence is abandoned, one can obtain merit and joy.

It has differences such as these, therefore, it also mentions hearing the Dharma and so on. Untimely clouds appeared for seven days, and the Naga king, holding on, embraced the Blessed One's body with great stature seven times. After seven days had passed, the Naga king released his embrace of the Blessed One's body, joined his palms, and said this: Venerable, have you not felt cold during these seven days? Have you not felt hot? Have you not been touched by mosquitoes, flies, and poisonous insects? Has your body not felt pain? After saying this, he spoke these two verses. Bliss is the cause of bliss that is without fault. Solitude is of two kinds, because it is the cause of bliss. Whose bliss is this? He mentioned joy, which is being content with just rough Dharma robes, because there is no discontent in solitude. For those who desire greatness, there is no discontent. Hearing the Dharma refers to the Dharma that is heard, which is the Dharma previously taught by the Sage. The bliss of much learning and solitude is because one constantly enters from fully understanding many Dharmas, therefore, it possesses wisdom born from hearing. Seeing refers to knowing, which is fully understanding, because it possesses wisdom born from contemplation. Non-harming in the world is bliss. It refers to harming, which is causing harm to others. Negating it is non-harming. To whom does it not harm? The world refers to sentient beings, which is explained by the phrase loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. This is because it is the cause of immeasurable bliss, just as one obtains bliss by taking blissful medicine. This shows the wisdom born from meditation. Regarding guarding living beings, this shows the complete discipline of morality, because the wisdom arising from hearing and so on also abides in it. As it is said: If one abides in morality, then one will possess hearing and thinking, and will be devoted to meditation. Or solitude is of two kinds. Here, it shows the solitude of the mind.
