Ground means to strike. Why? Because one desires one's own happiness. It means wanting to experience happiness related to oneself. A child seeks his own happiness through the suffering of others. The opposite of that is a noble being, as it is said: Like a sugarcane, squeezing others, one desires one's own happiness. Especially in times of conflict, one's nature burns like fire. If the suffering are not relieved by compassion, how will happiness arise? Those with compassion, others can generate happiness, and thus they are happy. So it is. Likewise, entering in a reversed manner is a child, to show that happiness is not attained in this or the next life. Happiness is not attained in the next life. This is what is said. The second shows the white side, to be understood. The causes of happiness and suffering, ultimately, are Dharma and non-Dharma, not others. To show this, it is said that practicing Dharma is good, and so on. In Rajagriha, two sons born of Jivaka went forth, one became an Arhat, and the second was a degenerate in discipline. He said to the Bhagavan: I dwell having gone forth, and even so, dwelling here with the Bhagavan, I do not indulge in desires, nor do I commit evil, and I will not fall into hell because of this, and from there I will be born in the heavens. From that, five verses were spoken. Or, by the power of the Bodhisattva Jewel-Crested, he ascended the lion throne in the midst of the assembly and taught this Dharma. Practicing Dharma means relying on compassion, to eliminate the suffering of others and generate happiness, that is its meaning. Dharma means, the definitive word is that which holds the great. Some also consider harm and the like as Dharma, and to distinguish from that, it is said that one should practice well, and striving for the fruit of happiness for oneself and others is the Dharma of happiness. Therefore, turning away from killing and the like, and entering into giving life and the like, is practicing well. This is (what) the Thubpas (Buddhas) (said).
