It has been established. Then, a messenger was sent to the Blessed One to report: 'Venerable one, I am delighted by what you have said.' Then, the Blessed One spoke three verses. 'To scold' means to belittle, no matter what words are used. If one does not speak at all, nor express anything, one will be scolded and said: 'This person is always like a mute.' 'Speaking much also' refers to whoever has many ways of speaking, even if they say many very pleasing words, they will be said to be: 'This person is of the nature of wind.' And unpleasant words are spoken. 'Speaking slowly also' refers to whoever has a way of speaking slowly, even if they speak little, they will be scolded and said: 'This person sells even a single word like gold.' Therefore, there is no one in the world who is not scolded.' It means that praise is completely absent. If someone asks, is it possible that someone among a hundred people could be scolded or praised? The answer is: 'No.' 'Completely scolded' means that even for all people, in all ways, even for Devadatta and others, there is no one who is not scolded. 'Person' refers to sentient beings, that is, beings. 'Completely praised' means that in all ways, completely praising with the nature of bliss, this is also absent. 'Has not appeared' means that it has not appeared before, because these two people have not appeared before. 'Will not appear' refers to the future time. If someone asks, then is there such a person among those who appear now? The answer is: 'There is not now either.' It means that even in the present age, nowhere is there such a situation. If someone asks, is there really a sentient being who should not be scolded? The answer is: 'Who', meaning the distinction of sentient beings. 'The wise praise' means knowing all kinds of things, that is, to the All-Knowing Thus-Gone One, other praises are also spoken. If someone asks, what is praised for doing? 'As they realized' means that because this is combined with following, it is realization, that is, with the wisdom of observing and realizing as the guide.

Therefore, one should understand and speak about the actions of the holy ones as they truly are. As it is fully explained in the scriptures, the Bhagavan, for this purpose, observed the interconnectedness of their rebirths and then made predictions, and so on. What is this like? Here, it is mentioned "without fault," which refers to situations where others have errors and faults. Not being affected by the harsh words of others is what it means to be without fault. Or, being without fault means having no discrimination, always acting with reverence and constant diligence. This indicates diligence and mindfulness, that is, continuously engaging in virtuous actions. This points out the path of accumulating merit and, further, points out the noble path. "Having faith, discipline, and wisdom," and so on, is what it means. The sound of faith is emphasized here, and in order to accomplish it, meditation is shown through virtuous actions. Therefore, this also points out the noble path of discipline, meditation, and the accumulation of wisdom. Those who possess qualities such as wisdom in this way have abandoned all afflictions and defilements and have attained all excellences, which is related to "should not be disparaged." What is this like? Just as "a gold ornament of Jambudvipa" shows, well-refined from the excellent gold of the Jambudvipa river, made into various ornaments, no one would think it should be disparaged. Similarly, being free from faults from both perspectives and possessing the qualities of a great being, neither gods nor humans should disparage them. To show that even when disparaged or praised, they do not change, "like a mountain," and so on, is mentioned. Fools, the greedy, friends, and those with status, and so on, may slander, while gods and others may praise, but their body and mind do not change because of it. Therefore, these two verses were spoken. "As" means for example. "Mountains and rocks are earth, the nature of stone. As they are not moved by the wind," means that the force of the wind cannot shake them. "Likewise" is just like that. Even when praised or slandered, the wise or holy ones do not waver or change, they do not
