The earth means the perfection of practicing well such as discipline. How is it obtained? It is said, "By the wise," it becomes certain that the cause and effect are correctly related, and one becomes highly accomplished in scriptures and the like. With much learning, by the power of the wise, one purifies the accumulation of generosity and discipline, and so on. As it is said: "If wisdom does not dispel the darkness, how can its discipline be pure? Most of those who are without discipline, become defiled by lack of patience." Thus it is said. Others say that the merit of householders and renunciates is what is said in half a verse. "This and" means that it will be truly found. It is the birth that has already occurred. "The other shore" means in other worlds. "Always" means continuously. Why? Because permanence is the nature of nirvana. "Of happiness" means perfection. "Will be obtained" means will be truly found. This is said in order to show the means to those who desire the distinction of the pure fruits of generosity and so on. In order to show that the ornament that is always particularly beautiful is discipline, it is said, "Discipline is good until old age." Thus and so on, a god came and said to the Blessed One: "What is good until old age? What dwells well? What is the treasure of men? What is difficult for thieves to steal?" After asking this, he then said, "Discipline is good until old age." This means that discipline, from childhood until old age, is good, excellent, and beautiful. Some ornaments are beautiful in childhood, but not for the elderly. Some are beautiful for men, but not for women, but discipline is beautiful for everyone at all times and places. "It is good to abide in faith," which means that great joy in the mind is faith, and giving good things is a definite word. As it is said: "Faith is like a mother, giving rise to virtue." Thus it is said. Extremely

Abiding is the meaning of arising from the root of abiding in a non-separating manner. That is good, abiding in faith is truly extremely beautiful, as it is said. The jewel of humans is wisdom. Wisdom is the certainty of suchness, that is the supreme jewel of humans. Monks, for example, gold or land, this is only a small jewel. For example, the jewel of wisdom is the supreme of jewels, as it is said in the sutras. Because it is difficult to obtain and is the cause of the perfection of manifest desires. Other jewels are easy to obtain and are common. Wisdom is not the cause of suffering, but most of the time, the only cause of happiness is wisdom, as it is said: Ignorance is the root of all continuums, wisdom is connected with perfection. Therefore, people should be like this. And so on, which means having complete knowledge. Merit is difficult to be taken away by thieves. Practicing generosity and other good deeds is merit, which cannot be taken away by thieves, and it is impossible to take it away even with extreme difficulty. As it is said: The merit of a man or a woman, the king of merit, even if the thieves are cunning and diligent, they cannot take it away. As it is said. The summarized meaning of the verses is that the cause of discipline is faith, and the cause of good conduct is wisdom. With discipline and good conduct, one can attain the perfection of good rebirths. Or, whoever has wisdom will have faith. Whoever has faith abides in discipline. Whoever has these three, good conduct is great merit, because it is necessarily related to this, so these were said. Just as all grains depend on the earth, all qualities abide in discipline, in order to show this. Monk abiding in discipline. It is said, how does a venerable monk completely not decline and can be seen close to Nirvana.
