Not only what was said before, but also, because one wishes to attain happiness in this world and beyond, therefore, these were spoken in order to definitely practice the path that generates the karma of happiness, which is called discipline. In order to distinguish the meaning of the word discipline, it is said, "Without any suffering in the body, happiness is attained through discipline." Then, the Blessed One said to the sons of good family who desired discipline: "Sons of good family, discipline is happiness. Holding discipline correctly is happiness. What is the reason for that? Sons of good family, those who possess discipline sleep peacefully and wake up peacefully, and when they sleep, they will be protected by the gods. For example, those who enter the path into a monastery in the summer, whose bodies are very afflicted and tired, go to the shade of a tree with cool springs, or the poor find a great treasure, or the blind find eyes, or the helpless find great protection, and so on. From then on, all the happiness that one desires to manifest is obtained by correctly upholding discipline, that is, promising to take good conduct as a guide. And what is the reason for that happiness? Because here, one who has become disciplined, it is said, "Without any suffering in the body." Because for those who are adorned with discipline, it is impossible to have misdeeds that cause suffering, so it is impossible to have bodily suffering caused by it. For those whose discipline is corrupted, because they have not completely restrained harm to themselves and others, such as cutting off hands, etc., the body will fully experience suffering. Therefore, because it has become cool, it is definitely called discipline, meaning that which satisfies. As it is said: Whatever hanging sandalwood is extremely moist, and the wind accompanied by cool rain with water droplets, the silent solitary place Kumuda in the moonlight, cannot eliminate suffering, but what arises universally at the time of the destruction of life, burns and destroys like the fire at the end of the eon, and even remembering discipline can subsequently eliminate it, because that is what satisfies.

The best of. It is said as such. To sleep peacefully at night means to be extremely relaxed at night, turning over in sleep, without any distraction. Therefore, relying on the realm of correctly upholding the precepts, it shows the joy of the sound of precepts. When awake, one also feels joy. It means to be free from sleep, in a state of not sleeping, where near disturbances disappear, and by practicing the path of unobstructed Dharmakaya, one truly feels joy and contentment. It means to experience joy without any defilement. This, through the meaning of habit, makes one understand the various distinctions of the sound of precepts, and in order to combine with the precepts that eliminate all suffering, these are said. In order to show that the collection of other paths such as generosity is also completely perfect in precepts, generosity and so on are said. The sutra says that generosity, the giver, and the purity of the respective recipients, etc., all exist, and other schools say that this refers to this verse. Generosity is to give food, drink, wealth, horses, elephants, etc., separately. How should one give? That is, those who possess precepts. It means that those who are very virtuous and give and practice generosity without harming others, those are the true generosity. Giving means that because one possesses perfect precepts, therefore the flawless perfection beyond that is because one possesses precepts and becomes a possessor of precepts, and when a possessor of precepts practices generosity, then one will surely obtain happiness. Some say that everything is understood in this way without distinction. Just as relying on a conch shell, the wind will increase, so too is generosity based on precepts. Therefore, there can be many kinds of words such as generosity, and giving separately to inferior, intermediate, and superior fields of merit, that is because of the power of precepts, the result will become greater.
