Ra 'gyur ro. Manifest subjugation is suppression, meaning the good path declines. This was spoken to induce those who are afraid of being deceived to abandon suffering. If others are suffering and obviously want (happiness), if they can abandon it, but they cannot love themselves, so do not think of benefiting themselves. In order to show how one should love oneself, it is said, "If one loves oneself," etc. The king of the country of Kosala, King Brightness, went alone to a solitary place and had such thoughts in his mind. Broadly speaking, those who love themselves are not truly loving themselves. The Blessed One went to his residence and (said), Great King, with body well practiced practice, with speech and mind well practiced practice, that is loving oneself, up to that point. At his request, he spoke five verses. Other sects say that in the terrifying forest, the young Bodhi King loved himself and acted wickedly, at his request (he spoke). "If one loves oneself," this saying means that for the time being, the wise should not love themselves, because they are impermanent. If someone wants to love their own or their own things, then they should not do so, that is, themselves. Causing to enter into sin is entering into evil deeds. Whoever prevents themselves from evil deeds of body, etc., that is abiding in loving oneself, because he abandons the cause of suffering. Why should he be made to do that? It is said, "Only easily," because wanting to benefit oneself, happiness is not easily obtained, nor is good found. Who are they? It is said, "Doers of evil," sentient beings who do evil are like entering fire without feeling cold or getting goosebumps, etc. In order to show the black side and then show the white side, it is said, "If one loves oneself," etc. Happiness, why is it only easily obtained? "Doers of good" are good deeds, those who constantly

Through excellent conduct, one can easily attain happiness both in this world and beyond. Therefore, excellent conduct is the cause of all happiness. As it is said: 'Monks, do not fear merit. Why? This is a supreme word of happiness,' and so on. This should not be put into sin. The meaning of the word 'put' is twofold: the characteristics of turning away and entering. Among these, first, to distinguish the characteristic of turning away, for example, 'solitary place' and so on have been mentioned. This, which is called 'guarding,' is to be guarded by turning oneself away from sin. This enters into the meaning of turning away. For example, 'guard the cattle from the barley field' means turning away. How is it guarded? 'Guard well' has been mentioned. This is a distinction of action, which is the work of guarding well. It means to show very well, that is, one should guard oneself in such a way that one can guard well. How should one guard? 'Like a city in a solitary place' has been mentioned. The place that is very far away is a solitary place, that is, a distant place where the region and direction are not the same. 'City' means that enemies like lions do not want to destroy it easily, which is a definitive word. That which is both a solitary place and a city is a collection of actions. It means residing in a place where the region is not the same, such as a mountain, which means a fortress. What is its distinction? 'Surrounded by a moat' has been mentioned, which is the city surrounded by a dug moat, that is, up to the depth of the moat. As it is said: 'In the king's city in a solitary place, a moat will be dug, and it will be dug very deep,' and so on, as it is said in the sutra. The word 'etc.' should be understood there, that is, spears, trustworthy people, weapons, food, and so on should be fully accepted. When the city in a solitary place is surrounded by seven kinds of moats, and food...
