For the sake of. Bhikshus delight in mindfulness. Etc. were mentioned. Because this is universally connected, it is a universal connection. The sutra teaches nine universal connections, of which this is taken as a general term. Subtle and coarse, etc., are subtle and coarse. For example, the universal connection of the first dhyana ground is coarse. The universal connection of the second dhyana ground is subtle, and so on. This shows that it is abandoned and completely abandoned in the form of small, medium, and large. Here is an example: It goes like being burned by fire. For example, fire, whether large or small, once it has obtained itself, burns wood and so on. Similarly, the fire of uncontaminated wisdom also burns all universal connections and does not arise again. This was said in order to lead to the cultivation of the uncontaminated path. It is said that by the power of mindfulness, one will attain the knowledge of exhaustion. Bhikshus exist, etc., were mentioned. To experience is to know. Gradually means gradually. For example, at first a small path will arise. Then there is the middle, and so on. First, coarse afflictions will be abandoned. Then the middle, etc., is said in the scriptures. All universal connections are exhausted, which means abandoning the nine universal connections. Because at the time of attaining the wisdom of knowing exhaustion, one obtains the attainment of being separated from all universal connections of the three realms. In order to abandon the universal connections of the three realms, this was said in order to lead those who are weary of samsara. In order to show that from not abandoning mindfulness, one can also attain the realm of nirvana with remainder and without remainder. Therefore, it is said that monks delight in mindfulness, etc. Individual contemplation means to strive to realize realization. The state is the position. For example, peaceful means that all things are near peace, like the burning fire of samsara. Actions near cessation, etc.

Here, formation is the aggregate that leads to rebirth. Obtaining peace and elimination in this context is precisely that. The term 'peaceful' signifies the attainment of the realm of Nirvana without the residue of aggregates, free from the fears of death and the like. Because it brings peace, it is called peace; it means that it unites with peace. This is taught for those who do not desire the suffering of rebirth, to bestow the knowledge of cessation. Because the knowledge of non-arising is attained, it shows that there is no falling away from the visible Dharma, as it is said, 'Monks delight in diligence,' and so forth. 'Impossible' means unreasonable. What is unreasonable? It is said that one will fall away. Falling away means being far from the fruit of Arhatship. For whom the wisdom of knowing birth arises, it shows that the path and its fruit do not fall away. Therefore, it is distinct from the desireless of the outsiders, because they are of the nature of falling away, far from Nirvana, arising in the higher realms, and there is no realization there. Here, in this way, it is ultimate there, as it is said in the scriptures. If one truly enters into the reality of this Dharma, one will not fall away, but will be close to Nirvana. Nirvana means not being reborn in Samsara again. The two Nirvanas, with residue and without residue, are like a seed and a sprout because they are close to each other. Being close means not being far away and being near. It should be known that one who abides in the realm of Nirvana with residue also abides in the manner of the realm of Nirvana without residue. Therefore, it is said in the Sutras that a Bhikshu Arhat is one who tends towards Nirvana, one who enters into Nirvana, and so on; they are completely in Nirvana. This is taught to lead those who are weary of Samsara to enter. The previous verses, with diligence and mindfulness, determined the good and benefit of both worlds.

After correctly showing that, now, in order to make them correctly hold it, it is said, "Having diligence," and so on. A certain god came before the Blessed One and asked: By what does one obtain supreme happiness in this world and the next? Great Wisdom Blessed One, please explain to me, I will diligently practice this. After such a request, the Blessed One taught: He spoke this verse, "Having diligence," and so on. Diligence is for being joyful and diligent in all things such as rising up and doing virtuous deeds. With mindfulness, one will not interrupt the tasks that have been started, but if one becomes without mindfulness, sometimes one will not start diligence. If one abides in diligence and mindfulness, what does one do? Answer: It is practicing the Dharma, which is practicing reason. The nature of the Dharma is spoken of: It is good conduct, etc., which is virtuous Dharma of body, etc. What is that? As it is said in the sutras, it is returning from taking life, etc. The benefit of this is: It is said, "By practicing the Dharma," that is, whoever has the state of practicing and doing the Dharma well, that one obtains happiness, that is, abides in happiness. That is the meaning of abiding without suffering in the place of samsara, and for whoever practices well, obtaining undesirable results is not a place to abide, nor is there an opportunity, as it is said in the sutras. This world is this life, the other world is the next life. In order to show the non-inverted way to those who desire happiness in all ways but do not know the method and engage in inverted ways, this is spoken. That which was just taught is interrupted, and in order to show its distinction, it is said, "Effort and generate diligence." And so on. In Shravasti, many newly ordained monks went before the Blessed One and requested: Venerable One, how should we train, what will become an obstacle to training, what should we abandon, and how should we abide in happiness? After such a request,
