Because of the two factors, intelligence and diligence, especially to make the mind clear, therefore it is called a wise person, that is its meaning. It is because of this that one is a wise person, not because of other reasons. In order to lead those who desire to achieve wisdom to investigate the truth and initiate diligence, these words were spoken. Furthermore, in order to show the merits of mindfulness in another way, it is mentioned, "Bhikkhus delight in mindfulness," and so on. Many bhikkhus near Jetavana, in a dense forest, diligently practiced the true Dharma, meditated, and thus attained a special status. Then, the Blessed One, thinking to lead other bhikkhus to the same achievement, manifested from Jetavana and went to where those bhikkhus were. Those bhikkhus also saw the Blessed One coming from afar, and went to greet the Blessed One. As they walked together in a secluded place, in that place, an elephant named Phrabe-ka belonging to King Prasenajit of Kosala was stuck in the mud and was pulled out by a large crowd. After that, they continued walking and saw the wind blowing strongly, moving the leaves of the trees. After that, they saw the fire spreading and burning down a large forest. Similarly, in a pleasant place, they saw a spring with lotuses and a garden, and then spoke six verses that corresponded to those scenes. Hearing these verses, many bhikkhus and many gods also attained special achievements. Because one delights in mindfulness, one is a delighter in mindfulness, and by showing the benefits of mindfulness, one obtains the opportunity to taste it, that is its meaning. So, what is that? The word "bhikkhu" is mentioned, meaning one who has destroyed evil deeds and distractions, has renounced and is a recluse. Because only in seclusion is there mindfulness, while in noise and association there is none. It is mentioned, "Seeing fear in heedlessness," meaning through the view of seeing fear. By showing the faults of heedlessness, seeing fear in heedlessness and

It shows the effort to cultivate virtuous Dharma. In order to show the benefits of mindfulness, it is said, "Leading out of the evil destinies." Going to the evil destinies is caused and led by evil deeds or their consequences. The so-called "self" refers to oneself falling into the evil destinies or indulging in them. Even small carelessness leads to evil deeds, and thus one falls into the evil destinies, let alone great carelessness? For example, the necklace of Sormo and Zenta Kakriti, etc., can also be cited here as examples. What is it like? Just as it is said, "Like an elephant out of the mud," just as an elephant is pulled out of the mud with the help of a large crowd of people, so too, relying on mindfulness, a monk with self-knowledge can be liberated from the evil destinies, because he has obtained the forbearance corresponding to the decisive part. In order to make people focus on relying on mindfulness to get rid of the fear of evil destinies, these words were spoken. After explaining that relying on mindfulness can abandon the three evil destinies, in order to explain that relying on mindfulness can also abandon non-virtuous Dharma, it is said, "The ascetic delights in mindfulness," and so on. The meaning of the half verse has already been explained earlier, so it will not be repeated now. To cast away is to abandon. What is to be abandoned? It is said, "Sinful Dharmas," that is, non-virtuous conditioned Dharmas, which are to be abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of cultivation that operate in the desire realm. Why should they be abandoned? Because all non-virtue is to be abandoned. Here is an example: "Like wind blowing leaves." The word "like" means "itself." Wind is a strong wind. For example, just as the strong force of the wind shakes, falls, and detaches those slightly loosened leaves that are inclined to ripen, so too, a mindful monk, by becoming accustomed to the path of detachment from worldly desires, etc., and by relaxing in all actions, should abandon non-virtuous Dharmas. It also shows that in this way, subtle afflictions operating in the form and formless realms can also be abandoned.
