You should make it truly realize Nirvana, therefore, these were spoken in order to realize through this method. Through negligence and diligence, the faults and merits of what should be abandoned and what should be adopted were explained, mentioning "praising diligence" and so on. King Light, who appeared in the country of Kosala, had such a thought arise in his mind: By relying on, practicing, and increasing one dharma, can the benefit of this life be perfected, or the benefit of the next life be perfected, or the benefit of both this life and the next life be perfected? When he thought this way, the Blessed One said: Great King, there is, that is, for all virtuous dharmas, diligence. After saying this, he uttered three verses. Others say that this began from the question asked by Indra, the lord of the gods, from the overlapping place of the vast houses. The so-called "praising diligence" is to praise diligence with the characteristics mentioned above, and it is the mastery of the differences of the noble ones. Mentioning negligence is to belittle. The so-called "constant" refers to the time of cause and the time of effect. Because diligence is constantly praised by merits, and its opposite, negligence, is blamed, why is this? Like this, "diligence" is mentioned, this is its reason. An offering equal to oneself, because others do not have it, so an offering is made, therefore it is called a hundred offerings. The so-called "gods" refers to the Four Great Kings and the Thirty-three Gods. The so-called "becoming the main" refers to obtaining freedom. If the praise of diligence is spoken because of this reason, then what is used to make the blame of negligence? The answer is: It needs to be supplemented here, because negligence will obtain unbearable hell, this is the ellipsis of words, and it is reasonable to infer the ellipsis of words for the scriptures whose meaning is not exhausted. Or the king asked if there is a single dharma, and the Able One showed the essence of what is taught with diligence. If so, then it is unreasonable to say blaming negligence, because the obstacles of negligence must be strongly eliminated.

There is no fault in accomplishing activities. These were spoken in order to instill the mind in that, desiring the distinction of happy migrations. It was stated that the cautious should be praised at all times, and so on, saying "actions can be done." Because it is speaking praise, it is extolling praise. To whom is it extolling? It says, "Actions can be done or not done." Whatever actions of body, speech, and mind are pure and agreeable, those are actions that have been done. Whatever is different from that, agreeable to happy migrations, has also been made agreeable to that. The wise are manifest knowledge; that is, both mundane and supramundane. Among those, the supramundane are the Buddhas and the Buddha's hearers. The mundane are the wise who are famous in the world. Therefore, in sequence, praise of caution is expressed for "actions can be done or not done." The two are both, so they are both themselves. Why is praise spoken in this way? Thus, it is said, "With this caution, two purposes," the benefit of a cautious person is twofold. "To take" means to take very firmly. What is it? It says, "The wise can," which is to understand what can and cannot be done. The foolish are not so, because they do not understand the two aspects of benefiting themselves and others. If it is said, how is it the meaning of experiencing accordingly? It says, "This life," which is to experience accordingly one's own aggregates or the aggregates that are seen, meaning with respect to the aggregates that have been obtained. In "what is the meaning," the word "is" is for the purpose of accomplishing distinction. Whatever is a special benefit of this life is the characteristic of wealth and so on. It says, "What is the meaning of the future life?" which refers to the next world, that is, the manner of going to happy migrations and so on. Having spoken of the wise as mentioned earlier, it states their nature, saying, "Realizing," which is realizing the truth of the meaning. Or realizing the four noble truths. Steadfastness is particularly excellent in the application of diligence, because laziness cannot always do things as they are, therefore, to rea
