The word "compassion" is mentioned, wherever there is sorrow, that is compassion, it should be connected with the word "child". Because it is the place of gathering of great suffering, it possesses immeasurable inner compassion. What is it like? Here is an example. "From the top of the mountains on the earth", because it dwells on the earth, it is on the earth. Because it dwells on the top of the mountain, it is from the top of the mountain. For example, looking with eyes from the top of the mountain, one can effortlessly see the beings below. Similarly, climbing on top of the pavilion of excellent wisdom, looking at and contemplating the children dwelling in the evil aggregates, that is its meaning. "The steadfast" means without discouragement. "For the act of harming others" this sentence is the remainder of the sentence, it is to see its meaning. "Prudence and steadfastness, and always delighting in oneself", this half of the verse, although it speaks of others, this is not correct, because in the Minor Collection, these six verses are repeated, and there is no extra meaning here, so it should not be said. In order to lead the negligent people into the state of wanting liberation, these were said. Merely being prudent cannot accomplish the meaning one wants to achieve, however, because it depends on the collection of all fruits, so in order to show diligence here, it was said "diligence and" etc. Asvaddatta's son, a village chief, went to the presence of the Blessed One, and after arriving, said this: The Tathagata is loving to one person, what is the cause, what are the conditions? Thus he asked. That village chief did not abide, like this until when? Just like a farmer has three fields. The first field is well ploughed, well leveled and prepared, the soil is fertile and flat, without grass and thorns. The second is well ploughed, it is wasteland. The third is salty, unploughed. Then, village chief, where will the farmer sow the seeds? Except for the first one, he will not sow in other places.

If not, then it is the second. The town chief, likewise, the Tathagata, considering the thoughts of those to be tamed, engages in activities such as teaching the Dharma. This is to say, when was this spoken? Others say that it began with the abbot's exposition of the small path in the Light Garden. The discipline with its foundation, and the mind and view completely pure, and the fruit shown here, this is the summary here. Diligence is to arouse from all sides and to begin diligence, without which one will not obtain the desired fruit. What is called mindfulness is to abide in this meaning with awareness, thereby guarding the mind, by the mindful one. Correct restraint is the correct restraint of body and speech, thereby turning back from overcoming evil. What is called taming is guarding the doors of the senses, thereby completely taming the senses such as the eye, not being robbed by objects. And the word "and" is also saying that it becomes an island thereby. What is called an island is for the sake of thoroughly entering Nirvana, therefore, in the Sutra Pitaka, it is said to be a synonym for Nirvana, such as the unconditioned, difficult to see, unchanging, infinite, without outflows, place, island, protector, and so on, extensively spoken. What is done by this is the meaning of obtaining Nirvana, what is done here is entering the vehicle, just as it is said elsewhere, it is the end of suffering. What is called the wise is where the wise one who knows the objects as they are, is, it is the meaning of seeing the truth. The great river can be directly stopped, what is called, because that wise one has made an island, therefore it will not be suppressed and robbed by the four rivers. This is what is proclaimed, diligence is perfect, that is, the noble Hearer abiding in perfect diligence will become mindful and abide in reality. Abiding in mindfulness, one can correctly restrain misconduct and all afflictions with body and speech. Because of completely training in discipline, for objects and afflictions

It subdues the realm of earth. In order to completely subdue one's mind, one possesses the discipline of the noble ones, and relying on pure dharma such as morality, one becomes an island. If one obtains the cessation of afflictions, then one will not be robbed by the four rivers again. Diligence shows the root of diligence. Mindfulness dwells near the root of mindfulness, because if there is mindfulness, one becomes cautious. Rightly guarding, because one can rightly guard the mind that wanders outward, it shows the root of concentration. Subduing shows the root of wisdom, because wisdom can completely subdue the mind. In any case, it will not become the result of maturation caused by afflictions. After the wise have made an island. It is said: The noble hearer believes in this, and with the aim of seeking liberation, thus showing the four roots and their fruits. This is the meaning expressed in the form of words. Therefore, in order for those who desire liberation to abandon faults such as laziness, these were spoken. In order to show that the stainless fame surpassing even the stainless autumn moon can only be obtained from mindfulness, It is said: possessing diligence, etc. A prince who desired fame came before the Blessed One and requested: Blessed One, by what can fame be increased? Thereafter, the Blessed One spoke this verse. Others say that it was spoken based on Kunpa Gosha in Rajagriha. Therefore, the concise meaning here is that possessing diligence is the root of diligence. Mindfulness is the root of mindfulness. Pure conduct is the root of concentration, because obtaining concentration can completely purify morality. Acting after observation is the root of wisdom, and relying on it, one can obtain the path beyond the world, and in order to universally show that with right guarding, etc., morality, livelihood, and mind can be extremely purified. Whoever has diligence is the one who possesses diligence, the
