Furthermore, it was said: There is this fault in indulging in desires, that it becomes the cause of committing evil deeds, and desires obstruct the knowledge of suchness. To explain this, two verses beginning with "attached to desires" were spoken. In a vast place, a householder named 'Severe Lord' threatened male and female servants and workers with punishments and intimidation, and during the day he played and rejoiced with a group of women, going from garden to garden. Seeing this, the Blessed One said: Craving for desires is the cause of committing evil deeds, it is a manifestation of complete ignorance, and being attached to it, one will strive to engage in what should not be done, so one will surely be blinded by impermanence and not be able to see. This is the summarized meaning. "Desire" refers to the desire for things. "Who" refers to any sentient being. "Attachment" refers to special clinging, that is, the behavior of ordinary people indulging in desires. "Non-dharma" refers to evil deeds of body, speech, and mind. As it is said, "What is non-dharma? It is killing in this case." and so on, as extensively explained in the sutras. Alas! The Blessed One has compassion for those who are particularly attached to desires, like worms living in impure things. Whoever is attached to desires and is arrogant due to the fulfillment of desires, thereby committing evil deeds and rejoicing. "Those" refers to those who were previously mentioned as being attached to desires. "Delighting in the ten non-dharma evil deeds" refers to indulging in joy. As it is said, "Desire is the cause of killing, and due to the root of desire and the cause of desire, there will be fighting between royal families and royal families." Those who are attached to desires and delight in non-dharma, because desires distract their minds, they are close to death, but they have not seen the obstacles, that is, they have not realized the obstacles, nor have they realized the unbearable interruption.

Q: For those who have desires, what causes the signs of sudden death to appear? A: It is said in the scripture, "When living a little." This refers to life that exists for a very short time, even if living long, it is only a hundred years. Because one does not see obstacles for the sake of reason or living a little. As it is said, "If life is secretly taken away, everything will fall into the hands of others, as long as one lives, there are desires. If separated from it, one will also be separated from desires." Therefore, this (passage) is spoken to divert the attention of those who are attached to desires from desires. In any case, attachment to desires and fondness for unlawful things will destroy oneself and others. To show this, it is said, "Foolish enjoyment," and so on. Foolishness refers to a child, the afflictions of craving produced by enjoyment and the afflictions of evil deeds produced by craving, this is the meaning summarized here. Destroying means causing suffering, making virtuous Dharma distant, and causing the lineage to decline. What is it? A: It is said, "Foolish," the foolish person possesses foolishness, that is, wisdom and evil thoughts, meaning ignorance. And what is it through? A: It is said, "Enjoyment," because of approaching desires, one enjoys, that is, the objects of desire. Those ignorant people will be destroyed, and even those noble beings with less sadness will be reproached. Not doing means never seeking the other shore, that is, inevitably liberating from desires. Having the state of seeking the other shore is like that, like not seeking Nirvana, meaning ordinary people. In other places, it is said to seek the self, because one seeks things that are beneficial to the self, meaning the wise. For those who are deluded by desires, the ignorant will feel pain.

Because it is accumulated nearby. Therefore, in order to show that accumulating evil deeds will bring harm to oneself and others nearby, it is said: Self and others are also destroyed. This sentence means that because of attachment to enjoyment and craving for enjoyment, one will destroy oneself, because it will lead to evil deeds that lead to evil destinies. In addition, the so-called "other" is also destroying other sentient beings, because it will cause many kinds of harm. The conjunction "and" is to definitely grasp the nature of destruction. What is that? It is said, "Loss of mind," because even if one does not obtain enjoyment, one will generate desire, which is also cultivating the habit of craving for it. In this way, one will be destroyed by enjoyment, because one will become unfree. In that way, because of the destruction caused by craving for enjoyment, one will also be destroyed, because one will universally commit evil deeds. The rest is as before. Because of what will it destroy in that way? It is said: With desire for desire. This is because of craving for enjoyment. In order to dispel the intention of pursuing enjoyment and attachment to enjoyment, these were said. How to destroy? It is said, "Destroy," then how to destroy these? It is said: Because of not knowing satisfaction, because of smallness, because of many faults. Here it is said: Even if it rains Kārṣāpaṇas. And so on, four verses. King, after I have experienced the happiness of gods and humans for a lifespan equivalent to a hundred times the power, a hundred times the Indra, and one hundred and fourteen, I finally said extensively: I have been close to enjoyment for a very long time, and have especially enjoyed it, but I am still not satisfied with all desires. Therefore, even if it rains Kārṣāpaṇas. and so on. Others say that in Śrāvastī, a renunciate named Vakula was displeased with renunciation and pleased with desires, so the first two verses were spoken to him and the monks. Those are also related to each other, which is the meaning summarized here. In any case, to fully understand all desires is to be dissatisfied and small.
