Therefore, this shows the nirvana with remainder, and for the sake of desiring the nirvana without remainder, it is said "will not become me," which clearly indicates the desire to abandon the future self and things belonging to me. Therefore, monks, called "equal placement," in this way, if a disciple of the Thus-Gone One generates mindfulness and a special thought of liberation, then they will cultivate meditation with a focused mind. Because with a focused mind, one will quickly transcend the desire for objects. This means abandoning the three types of desire that arise from various objects. Because this is the root of samsara, all the outflows of samsara will be dried up. Therefore, to show that after transcending the desire for objects, one will also transcend birth and old age, it is said "whoever remembers" and so on. Monks, whoever has perfect faith, up to perfect samadhi. He will not be long in attaining the end of birth and old age, from there four verses were spoken. "Whoever" is to emphasize what is said below, meaning "completely entered." "Doing mel tze" means diligently initiating effort. "Doing mel tze" is diligence, because all qualities are guided by diligence. Having mindfulness is because of having mindfulness belonging to the body. Having knowledge means knowing truly and without inversion, that is, having special wisdom. Joy is because of having perfect discipline, so there is no regret, and there is always joy. "Completely clear" means clearing away defilements by the power of faith, just as the great sea becomes very clear in autumn. Similarly, because of the collection of worldly things, that is, the perfection of faculties such as faith and so on. "From time to time" means gradually manifesting realization. Dharma refers to the noble truths and so on. Observation means completely with the path of seeing and so on.

It is observation, by its power abandoning all afflictions, and abiding in the path of no more learning. Diligently striving for the sake of taming, this is what is said, saying "will transcend," because of completely abandoning. Birth and old age are the aggregates of samsara, therefore one will attain nirvana without remainder. What is said is because of fearlessness, I myself said it, because one has obtained non-inverted wisdom. The explanations of others are because they possess inversion. Because one is always diligent, in order to focus on this, therefore always teaches to strive. Saying "always be diligent," that is, always initiate diligence, because effort is diligence, and laziness is the nature of sleep. Saying "by diligence," that is, practicing with firmness and respect, whoever possesses this, he is the diligent one, like one with a staff. Constantly practicing without stopping, therefore walking and sitting during the day, one must purify oneself from the obscurations of the mind, and so on, as stated in the sutras. Previously, it was taught to practice constantly, and with this, it was taught to practice respectfully, because a bhikshu refers to the state before a person merely possesses faith and perfect discipline, therefore these were done, and it is appropriate to call one who possesses these a bhikshu. The wise one is enlightenment, because he possesses mindfulness. Having mindfulness means having mindfulness, he is the yogi who is restrained by the power of the senses. Having said, "Having abandoned all attachments," that is, greed and anger, etc., the nine forms are taught without distinction. Having said, "birth and old age," this teaches that all things bound by existence have been abandoned. Having said, "Therefore he will attain nirvana," that is, in the nature of the visible dharma, he will surely attain liberation, because of hearing the well-spoken words and being associated with diligence, etc. In order to make the teachings heard, it was said, "sleep," etc. Having said, "Hear diligence from me," that is, because of becoming diligent, one becomes very...

Then, the words "reverence" and so on, I will show you, please listen, it is to show the means of immeasurable happiness. Assuming that one does not listen with reverence, then "awaken those who are asleep," meaning to thoroughly awaken them. Those who are suppressed by the sleep of carelessness and so on, please awaken them. Otherwise, if there is no arising of the Buddha, there is no perfection of Dharma among beings. Those who attain diligence in the work of benefiting themselves and others are attained as if they have not fallen asleep. By showing accordance with this, it becomes a vessel for listening, and this is its function. Why does it function in this way? Like this: "Sleeping is better than laziness," meaning that relative to things like laziness, actions like diligence are the best, because one wants to accomplish the desired goal. To show other reasons, it is said: "There is no fear in laziness," here the word "la" means to indicate the reason. Because for a person who does good, if they become lazy, there is no fear of hell and so on. The scriptures say that monks and merits will not be afraid. Why is there no fear in laziness? Like this: "Diligence in laziness," meaning that because one does not sleep, it is laziness. Because it is the very thing of laziness, it is laziness itself. The yogis who follow diligence, after showing the practice of reverence, are the practice of constant practice. "Day and night follow learning," night is darkness, because learning in accordance with the three trainings, all tend towards Nirvana. In order to show the superior fruit of diligence. "More desire for immortality," meaning to desire Nirvana, the thought of liberation will increase, and the path of no outflows will arise. If the noble path arises, what will happen? Therefore it is said: "All defilements will be exhausted," meaning that all defilements will disappear.
