The word "kyi" is mentioned. The second line is because of the impurity being inverted, and in order to dispel the purity of impermanence, it is born of action. The third line is for those who are ignorant of self, because they have birth and death, so all actions are selfless, and thus one can realize. The last line is the inversion of suffering as happiness, liberation itself is eternally separated from the three sufferings and is the ultimate happiness, so it is like being separated from all darkness and the extremely bright light rising. If the truth of the meaning of what is done is unpleasant, then how can you be ignorant of this? Thus they spoke to them. According to the order of the stages, this verse also fully clarifies the Four Noble Truths, as others also believe. Among them, the first line shows the origin, if it were permanent, why would it not appear at the time of the result? The second line is suffering, becoming the result itself is birth and death. The third line is the path, because it is made, so it has it in the time of present arising. The fourth line is cessation, because virtue is permanent, so it is happiness. Here is an example of four merchant's sons. They heard this: In Shravasti there were four merchant's sons, who were rich and possessed great wealth, they heard this: The Blessed One is a great field of merit, even if only a little is offered, one can obtain the desired result as desired, so they listened to his teachings, thinking that they should completely abandon suffering and go. They took many alms, came out of their homes, went to the Blessed One's activity place, filled the bowls and offered them, and then quickly returned to their homes. Gradually, for four days, each day a verse was spoken by a Buddha. When they returned home, they said: We have obtained a good harvest, our wishes have been fulfilled. At that time, one of them said: Mine is, alas! All conditioned things are impermanent.

It is said that only this much was heard. Others also said that they heard each verse. Because the meaning of the verses was ascertained, the truth manifested, and having attained the fruit of entering the stream, and having renounced, they became arhats. This was said in order to save sentient beings who especially delight in existence and turn their backs on nirvana from samsara, and in order to generate desire in liberation. In order to show, without error, through the previously spoken verses, that both suffering and happiness must be abandoned, and that both must be accepted, and the methods of abandoning and accepting, therefore it was said, "Like this, blazing fiercely," and so on. The origin of this event is that when it was in Shravasti, many monks were staying in the rooms of the dwelling, and staying there, they were speaking of intermediate topics in this way. My things are the cause of joy. Places are also the cause of satisfaction. Why is that? Because if these are fully attended to and protected, then joy and satisfaction will also arise. The Blessed One heard with his pure divine ear, which transcends human abilities. Having heard, he summoned them and said: Monks, why have you gathered and sat here, speaking evil words with your bodies and sitting? In this way, he extensively rebuked samsara and spoke this verse. Having heard this, they meditated and attained the fruit of arhatship. Because for abandoning suffering, renunciation is the method. If one becomes renounced, one will be free from desire, thus it is shown in the sutra. Attachment to defilements is an obstacle to renunciation, because there is no real ascertainment and investigation. The uncontaminated wisdom of truly ascertaining and investigating is itself the method of attaining nirvana. In order to combine the two, this verse was spoken. This is the summarized meaning. What is the meaning of the limbs? Does "what" mean "which one"? It is a negative meaning, meaning that the wise do not negate. "Destruction" means that if one investigates, joy and so on do not truly exist,

Stand to. Or, this is what must be grasped, meaning "there is nothing." Because word particles and the like have various meanings. Being connected with self, being satisfied with the happiness of self connected with attachment, this is joy. It arises together with ignorance, entering the household in a joyful manner, this is manifest pride. Being led by wealth, possessing craving for it, this is satisfaction, like an object given without being asked for. Both of these cause samsara to continue, and the deluded are misled by perversion. For the wise, these two do not exist, because through complete examination, they enter into Suchness. So, what is it for the deluded? It is the state of one's own objects and the objects of utensils. What is it like? It is said: Thus, it burns intensely. It is said in this way. In this manner and in this situation, it is intensely accomplished, aging, sickness, and death, etc., are like a burning fire. Where it burns very intensely and truly occurs, that is intensely burning. Just as fire can consume firewood, and karanja and sandalwood, etc., can burn, similarly, the suffering arising from afflictions, generating manifest displeasure and destroying pleasing objects, because it is sharp, it is exemplified by intensely burning. For whom, the objects of the past and future are like this, but what is happening now is not like this, because there is manifest joy in this. Speaking in the mind: Saying "la," meaning what exists in correct terminology is what is happening now. To this, as it is said in the sutras: Monks, for this, everything is universally burning, the fire of desire and the fire of hatred, etc. In it, conditioned things are always tormented, like setting fire to a tree in a bird's nest. Seeing that very reality, in no way will joy and satisfaction arise, because it is depressing, thus it is shown. What is happening now is established even if it is not said, because the past and the future, what has happened and what will happen, are like this, manifest and inferred.
