It is the act of a foolish person. It is extremely difficult to abandon, not only temporarily, but also shows that it is difficult to abandon even at that time, so it is said "difficult to abandon." "Even at that time" is the remainder of the sentence. Even noble people cannot easily abandon it, because they are proficient in reasoning. In other places it is said "difficult to endure," meaning difficult to endure and suppress. The collection of respect, the explanation of the thirteenth kind, is complete. Because of excessive attachment to gain and respect, it will lead to the generation of countless faults such as strife, etc. In order to prove this, the collection of strife is shown after it. Or, why is it said that one should regard gain and respect as mud and thorns? It is explained that because it is related to faults such as strife, the word "strife" is used. Taking the example of Devadatta being tormented by the fire of hell and wailing, two verses are spoken. Others say that it is taken as an example of killing the holy Shakya clan. Helping and harming are also achieved through contemptuous people and ordinary people, etc., that is, for those who should not be harmed and contended with. Therefore, to contend with those who should not be contended with means to engage in strife and various harms. How is it that one should not contend? The answer is, "Do not commit sinful deeds," that is, do not commit any slight faults or harms, but give help. For children, this is strife, that is, for the foolish person who contends with those who should not be contended with, it harms and torments the contender himself. Where is it? It is said "in this world," which refers to things that are not known in this life, etc., such as the story of the bear and the deer, and the story of Koka Lika, etc., are also told here. "In the next life" refers to falling into evil destinies, etc., in the next life as well. Even if it harms both, but in order to first explain the harm to oneself, it is first oneself.

It is destruction, and so on. Whoever strives to contend with others, that is first, first is oneself. Destroying means becoming harmful, destruction is causing harm, this is to show that due to acting badly, infamy increases, and so on, with near torment. After that, it also destroys others. This means that from that time on, when he possesses an assembly, he also destroys other sentient beings. Therefore, destroying and also destroying others means that first one destroys oneself, and then after destroying oneself, one destroys others. For example, like an eagle's decoy bird. This means that any bird that is separated from the root of its wings is a decoy bird. Just as that bird whose wings have been cut off kills other birds. Or, when a very hungry eagle looks at each other, others say that when it sees birds such as the shārikā and swoops down to kill them, because the directions are not aligned, both of them will die. Others say that it is a dead decoy bird. Or, if the bait of a dead bird is pierced with an iron nail and tied and placed, when the eagle sees it and swoops down on it, it will be struck by the nail, and it too will die. Or, it is a fearsome thing with tolerable characteristics. As it is said in the Caraka: The sound of a doctor is expressive, just as one seeks when struck by illness. Relying on fearsome things, like the Brahmin in the forest. Because the action is to transform oneself into the characteristics of an ascetic such as the black ajina, and in the places of monasteries, to kill fearless birds and deer, and so on. Then, just as one possesses deer skin and so on, and kills other deer. Others say that it is a trap, because one is without life, one cuts off other living beings. In order to clearly show that by contending with what should not be contended with, one obtains various kinds of faults, therefore striking and so on are mentioned. Due to being overly attached to gain and respect, open contention and so on will cause thousands of destructions to arise, this is to prove.
