Etc. "Merely by being bad" means giving inferior Dharma robes etc., that is, only maintaining livelihood as previously mentioned. "Content and" means should be content. Having been content like this, what should be done? It is said: "The one Dharma should also be cultivated." This means that the most important Dharma is the supreme liberation. Should be cultivated, that is, should be obtained. Or cultivate the mindfulness belonging to the body, that is, cultivate the one Dharma. Thus, the mindfulness belonging to the body. This is because it is recorded in the sutras. Or, it is the noble path. One should not pursue gain and respect, because that is the cause of inviting slander etc.; one should follow the precepts etc., because that is related to praise, in order to show this reason. If "If many do not know", etc. You do not boast of good deeds, do not hide sins, abide by this. Why is that? Because not boasting of good deeds, good Dharma will increase, such as protecting good rice fields, thus three verses were spoken. Not fully known by many or to many, if it is unreasonable for many people. However, "If one can keep the precepts well", it is said, great importance is attached to this, that is, from guarding the precepts arises great respect, and the words of regarding even small faults as fearful things. The word "In all precepts" is a plural word, because it is the seven Pratimoksha precepts, and the differences of Pratimoksha, Samadhi and Anāsrava. "Those who know praise" means that those wise people praise. How to praise? "Living purely" means living without faults, because it is not known by many, so there is no wrong livelihood. This shows the result of not being known by many. "Without laziness" means not arising laziness, there is no laziness for precepts and samadhi etc., or there is no laziness and diligence for fully guarding the precepts. Living purely, and diligently keeping the precepts.

It is to accomplish the complete accumulation of Dharma. If someone asks, "Why are these wise ones called praisers?", the words "if" and so on have been mentioned. The so-called "three-knowing" refers to those who possess the extraordinary abilities to know past lives, death and rebirth, and the exhaustion of defilements. If one is able to possess these three knowings, that is, to possess the essence of the three knowings, therefore they are called "three-knowing." This indicates that they possess complete wisdom, because they possess the wisdom of both the world and beyond the world. The benefits of obtaining the three knowings are explained in the sutra, which is the so-called "destroyer of the Lord of Death." Because they possess the essence of destroying the Lord of Death, they are able to subdue the Lord of Death and transcend the pursuit of death. Why is this so? Because the sutra mentions "without outflows," which means that they will not be controlled by the influence of afflictions, and therefore will not suffer death. This shows that they possess the complete qualities of abandonment and realization. Even so, after careful consideration, great figures are able to understand things that are incomprehensible to the masses. Contempt refers to the state between belittling and despising. The so-called "foolish" refers to the inability to distinguish the good from the bad. The phrase "if eating and drinking" in the sutra means that even if they are very rich in all aspects and possess extremely abundant food and drink, it also indicates that what they have obtained is not inferior. Because food will eventually be transformed into filth such as feces and urine. The so-called "having a sinful nature" means that they have a sinful nature, that is, acting badly. Even if they have committed unforgivable sins such as killing their father and mother, those foolish people, that is, those who do not possess wisdom, will still make offerings and respect them. In order to show that being far away from gain and respect is like an enemy, the two verses such as "shaved head and wearing robes" are mentioned. Another heretic once said, "In the past, we were respected by people, but now they respect the Buddha and his disciples. I must kill the female mendicant Sundari and dig a pit in Jeta Grove."
