It is not in cyclic existence. What is it then? It is said, "having realized," which means possessing the path of realization. Shakyamuni Buddha, while seated on the Vajra Seat, taught this very path. The current teacher of the doctrine is Shakyamuni Buddha, and thus it is spoken for the sake of closeness. In this way, all the Tathagatas also realize this very path. In what state does one abide? It is called "equanimity," which means abandoning all distractions and focusing the mind on one point. From the mind of equanimity, one will truly realize things as they are, that is the meaning of this phrase. To be free from desire from the sphere of nothingness is what all Bodhisattvas certainly overcome, this is the conclusion. Without Samadhi, that is not possible, thus it is shown. What is called "this explanation" is the explanation of the very path that one has understood oneself, showing it to others out of compassion, not only realizing it oneself, but also showing it to others as it is, that is its meaning. What is called "to the assembly" refers to the multitude of sentient beings, this shows that there is no bias. What is called "again and again" refers to moment by moment, this shows that there is no repeated arising. In order to show the power of what was previously taught, it is said, "the end of birth and death," and so on. Monks, at one time I lived in Uruvilva, on the banks of the Nairanjana River, and I dwelt alone, and the thought arose in me: Before long, I will awaken to perfect and complete enlightenment. This one path is for the complete purification of sentient beings, for the sake of transcending those afflicted by sorrow, for the sake of eliminating suffering and discomfort, and for the sake of realizing the Dharma. For example, the four mindfulnesses, the noble ones who have accomplished these through these, therefore obtain the Dharma. Whoever obtains the Dharma of the noble ones, as long as they obtain the essence of the noble path, they will not abandon it. These are the four verses about the end of birth and death, and so on. One path is...

It is only a method for transcending suffering, not for the sake of samsara. "Realizing the limit of birth and death" refers to the Tathagata. The term "birth tree" refers to samsara, including its cause. The word "limit" means liberation. Seeing both of these manifestly is the meaning of "all-knowing." To realize and teach without error the harms of birth, aging, and death, etc., is that very thing. The path is well-shown. This refers to showing other methods of liberation. To show that the cause of showing others is compassion itself, it is said, "Benefactor, loving-kindness," where benefit is the consequence, and where love exists, that is the meaning of "great compassion." Because great compassion is what makes compassion great and completely protects. From where does this single path come? Like this, this path refers to the noble path itself. "Before" refers to the past time. "Transcending" means to transcend, to transcend from the ocean of afflictions and the ocean of samsara, referring to Dipamkara Buddha and others, and their Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. "Likewise, will transcend and will be transcending," in this sentence, the meaning of guiding this path is the sound of "likewise," which refers to Maitreya and others who will appear in the future, including their retinues, who will transcend. "Transcender" refers to Shakyamuni, who appears now, including his retinue, who is also a transcender. From where does one transcend? It is said, the four rivers, namely the river of afflictions, or the ocean of samsara. Because the noble path is shown, and the necessity of the world, it is said, "extremely ultimate," etc. Others say that a wandering ascetic named Je Dar Bompo asked the Bhagavan why the Tathagata showed the path, and this was to accommodate his wishes. "Extremely" means without return. What is ultimate and becomes the last? That is Nirvana, the name of Nirvana without remainder. To show in order to realize it, without understanding the path, one cannot
