The Buddhas will be pleased with the diligent efforts to benefit all sentient beings. In order to teach that one should be mindful of how much one can teach the path, it is said, "The teacher," etc. The teacher alone is the Buddha Bhagavan, who, through the power of miracles and supreme generosity, does not create a path in the minds of others. It only teaches the expedient path of abandoning the subtle sleep of the summit of existence. If someone asks, is it not an antidote to other grounds? (Answer) It is said, "The thorn of craving," etc. Teaching is a broad distinction. The thorn of craving is the cause of all samsara, the obstacle to attaining liberation, the pervasive action of following attachment. Just as when bile is fully produced, a washing medicine is a method for the disease of thirst, so for this attachment, the path of elimination is also mentioned, in order to teach this, meaning that the path can uproot the thorn of attachment. Elimination means to go, to give and make it go from the continuum, meaning to separate and distinguish. The teacher and the teaching are the difference between brevity and extensive teaching. Or, the teacher is to explain a little, meaning briefly. Because previously, it was said to the close disciples that only the abandonment of the summit of existence was taught, and later, the desire of the nine grounds was abandoned. The teacher is the one who teaches. If someone asks, if only the path of seeing is taught in this way, it cannot abandon all the afflictions, then why is it said like this? (Answer) First, the path of seeing is taught from the path of seeing, in order to teach that if one becomes accustomed to it, it is the path of meditation, not another. It is said, "Make the view pure," etc. "This" means suchness, as it is said, the noble path itself is the method of attaining liberation, not another, because the worldly path cannot abandon the afflictions of the summit of existence, nor can it attain (liberation). Why is that kind of path? Because "make the view pure," meaning that because wisdom is without defilement, it can abandon all subtle sleep, but for evil wisdom it cannot abandon.

There is no power in between. Therefore, monks, it is said in the sutras that when one abandons with noble wisdom. Or, seeing those such as the view of the perishable aggregates as completely pure, one enters this path in order to abandon them, and this path makes the view completely pure. It should be known from the cause. If asked whether it can be known only by faith or only by words, it is said, "Well entered," that is, entering into practice, giving utmost importance to the cultivation of the noble path. The so-called "abandoning" means completely abandoning. The so-called "in samadhi" means entering into the state of tranquility where the mind is one-pointed, because with a distracted mind one cannot practice these and cannot concentrate. What should be abandoned in this way? The so-called "bonds of Mara" means that in order to obtain bonds, Mara can cause one to obtain the bonds of affliction, which is the meaning. This path has the fruit as previously stated, and not only that, but in order to examine whether there is such a fruit, it is said, "This is the straight path," and so on. The so-called "this" refers to what has just been indicated, that is, the noble path. Utterly unswerving, that is, with the aspect of selflessness, etc., Nirvana is straight, therefore it is irreversible and straight, which is the meaning. The so-called "this is victorious over others," this path alone, like the rising sun, eliminates the multitude of afflictions and darkness, and also, with this one can cross the ocean of suffering. Subduing others means that the person is able to rely on his own antidote, which is the meaning. Therefore, the combination of the difference between the two is stated, the so-called "one path"
