Returning. Because the collection of paths possesses distinctiveness, to show that the noble path is the most important of all paths. It is said, "Among truths," and so on. The Blessed One was dwelling in Rajgir, in the mango grove of Jivaka. Then, the youth Jivaka went before the Blessed One and asked in verses: "Among fruits, the emblic myrobalan (སྐྱུ་རུ་ར།) is the best; among roots, the chitraka (ཙི་ཏྲ་ཀ) is the best; among astringents, sweetness is the best; among salts, rock salt is the best." Therefore, this verse was spoken. The term "among paths" means among the methods of attaining liberation, among the recitations, prostrations, recitations, asceticism, entering fire, etc., taught in other methods of accomplishment, the distinction is the seventh. Among all paths, that which possesses the eight limbs, such as right view, is the noble eightfold path, like one with a staff. Because the path is the general term for the collection of limbs, like the powder of six limbs. Supreme is the most supreme, because there is no confusion in giving its own fruit. To show the sphere of activity of the path, it is said, "Among truths, the four truths." Even in each of the established schools, it is said to be truth, for example: the truth of the Mind-Only school is one; the truth of the annihilators is two, namely the nature of conventional and ultimate, or the nature of animate and inanimate; the truth of the Brahmins is three; those who assert conditioned phenomena and the three times are four; those who assert five meanings of words are five; the Vaisheshikas are six; the Samkhyas are twenty-five, and so on. Among these, there are the four noble truths. The word "and" is the meaning of supreme. Because it is not inverted from suchness, the path arises only from its own object. "Among dharmas, detachment is supreme," which means that non-attachment is non-attachment, here referring to the nirvana attained by detachment from desire, among all meanings, liberation is the most important, because it is constant goodness.

Ro! Among all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, the dharma free from desire is the most supreme, as stated in the sutras. "Among the two-legged, the one with eyes" refers to the one who possesses three eyes in particular, hence called the one with eyes, which is the Tathagata. He is the chief among all two-legged beings, because beings are without feet, with two feet, with many feet, and so on, as stated in the scriptures. The word "etcetera" is to indicate what follows. Among the two-legged etcetera, only the Sugata is the most supreme, hence the word "and." Therefore, this indicates that among all doctors, the supreme is the Bhagavan, and among all medicines, it is the path. Among all diseases, it is samsara. Among all freedom from disease, it is liberation. Therefore, you should strive for this. The one who fully understands the science of life is the doctor. Therefore, this indicates that the truth shown in this way, the realm of the unerring path, the truth that surpasses all meanings, the path of the fruit of liberation, those who wish to benefit themselves should exert diligence. This is what it indicates. By what cause will one see the truth? It is said: All conditioned things, etcetera. Then, four monk friends went before the Bhagavan and said: Venerable one, please teach us the Dharma concisely so that we may exhaust our defilements. When they requested this, one of them had a different view. The rest held views of happiness and so on. In order, according to their wishes, four verses and four summaries were spoken. "All conditioned things are impermanent," refers to the nature of the five aggregates of grasping, which are the result, all are momentary. The meaning of all things is conditioned, therefore, one should contemplate their impermanence. If the origin and the path are also conditioned, and if one does not see their aspect of impermanence, then how can one say all conditioned things? It is explained: All is from one point of view. For example, having drunk all the ghee.
