Should be abandoned. This means that beings without faith should be abandoned, because they are far from water, just like those who desire water and dig a dry well, those who do evil should be completely abandoned. Believers should be approached. This means that those with faith should be approached, just like those who desire water approach the great sea. In order to increase their accumulation of merit. The explanation of the tenth chapter, the chapter of faith, is completed. In order to show the special result of faith, the chapter of ascetics is then explained, because by the power of faith, the noble path arises, and by its power, one becomes an ascetic. Or, in order to show that the synonym for the capable one in the chapter just explained is an ascetic. The commentary says, the Brahmin desires, etc. There was a Brahmin named "Most Faith" who wanted to achieve the liberation of Serkya, but did not know how. Later, he developed faith in the Buddha, so he went to the Blessed One and asked. For this reason, the Blessed One spoke two verses, and after hearing them, he went forth and attained the fruit of an Arhat. "Cut off" means to abandon and discard. So, what should be cut off? It is the "continuum," that is, the continuum of birth and death. If this is not abandoned, one cannot attain the sole liberation. So, what must be done to cut off the continuum? The sutra says, "By diligence," that is, the difference produced by effort is diligence. Relying on the holy ones with faith, listening to good teachings, upholding ordination, and entering into the accumulation of the path of virtue, etc., is what it means. Relying on this accumulation, what should be done next? The sutra says that defilements should be abandoned. In order to show the order of abandoning defilements, the sutra says, "Completely abandon desire," that is, abandon the defilements to be abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of cultivation that are practiced in desire. This shows that from then on, one practices in the form realm and the formless realm. If one completely abandons the desire realm, one can become a Brahmin, but one cannot become a Brahmin by being immersed in the impurity of desire.

In order to show that very thing, the word "Brahmin" is spoken. The meaning here is that the mind turns away from desires. So, for what reason should desires, etc., be abandoned? "Not completely abandoned" means that as long as one has not abandoned the afflictions of enjoying desires, etc., then one cannot attain it, one cannot obtain it at all. "Attainment" means attaining Nirvana with remainder. "Fundamentally" means Nirvana without remainder. Both of these are attained by abandoning afflictions, which is realization. Without attaining it, one cannot cut off the continuum, so one must abandon desires, etc. Here, even without a renunciate practitioner, the sounds of Brahmin and attainment are its synonyms, so this verse should be placed in the category of practitioners. In both verses, the sound of "constant goer" is because it is conventionally applied to practitioners, so there is no dispute. By constantly doing and respectfully doing, the previously shown action can be accomplished, otherwise it cannot, this is shown here. The so-called "constant goer" and so on. Repeating the word "action action" means "do, do." The so-called "constantly that very thing" refers to the continuum that was previously shown to be cut off, by cultivating the antidote that is in harmony with oneself, one must constantly accomplish that very thing, here it is said not to be negligent. In order to engage in respectful action, it is said, "Only with steadfast diligence." Attending to virtuous spiritual friends, listening to the sacred Dharma, etc., without interruption, initiate diligence, you must enter into it. So, from where does one enter? "Weak constant goers." It means that the action is lax. Like this, if the constant goer lacks diligence, is not weary, and is endowed with pride and jealousy, etc., then at that time, in general, it will also increase and develop more. Afflictions are the nature of karma and afflictions and the all-afflictive nature of birth, not abandoned.
