It is said to show that it is so, such as "rust from iron." Others say that it was said to show the abbot king and Akroshaka, Roshaka, and Paribhashaka who lived in Rajagriha. Iron is iron itself, like this, rust is dirt. To arise is to be completely produced. Just as dirt arises from iron, and the existing dirt is produced from iron, born from iron, and arises from iron, but it devours, exhausts, and destroys its own iron or weapon, that is the meaning. Therefore, "Similarly, acting without examination" refers to a child who does not examine completely. "One's own karma" refers to the evil deeds committed by oneself. "Falling into evil destinies" means that one will obtain rebirth in evil realms. Therefore, to show that one should fear evil deeds, these were said. Explanation of the Chapter on Karma, the Ninth Chapter, is completed. As previously stated, in order to show the method of exhausting sinful deeds, the Chapter on Faith is shown after that, because by relying on it, the sinful deeds of Ajatashatru and others were exhausted. Now, the writing of this commentary will begin, that is, explaining "faith and shame" and so on. In Shravasti, there were four friends who were sons of wealthy families. One had no faith and did not believe in anything. The second had no shame. The third practiced evil. The fourth was very stingy. They also always had such thoughts: When will we be able to cultivate the path to heaven, so that we can ascend to heaven and enjoy its perfections? They were also very happy because they had obtained things without deficiency, etc. They went before the Blessed One, and the Blessed One spoke these words according to their wishes. Faith is the extreme purity of the mind, and it is divided into two types, namely, the characteristic of being undoubtedly certain and the characteristic of pursuing meaning. Because undoubtedly certainty arises, some people will go to pursue meaning. What is called undoubtedly certainty refers to the undoubtedly certainty about the relationship between karma and its result, and the Three Jewels, etc. The so-called desire

Taking the objects transformed by it as meaningful, it also means that this is the cause of generating all virtues. It is also said: Faith is like the mother who gives birth to goodness, beings initially enter into good intentions. Those without faith are unable to hold the path to Bodhi and the collection of precious jewels of the Dharma. As it is said. Each is shown as the path to heaven, hence the use of "之". Shame is that which makes one abstain from evil and feel ashamed, and respect virtues and those who possess virtues. Discipline is abandoning immoral conduct, as previously stated. Giving is complete giving, and here, the only giver is the one who gives, and by giving, giving is accomplished, as stated from the edge of establishment, as it is said: When giving wealth with a virtuous mind, I have not given, at that moment, the collection of virtuous dharmas is called giving. As it is said. These dharmas are the distinguishing qualities of things, which are these, and are meant to magnify. Dharma is the word of virtue and the doer of good. Therefore, it is said: Praised by the noble ones, meaning praised by the Buddha and his Shravakas, those with faults are not praised. How are these praised? It is said to be the path of happiness, and it is said: By this path, one can be reborn in the heavenly realm. These four distinctions skillfully show the means to go to heaven, why? It is said that it is not separate from these four, the work of being away from fire and water is the thought of offerings and so on. Those who will go to be reborn are those who cause rebirth. The heavenly realm is equal to the gods. There, faith goes before all good deeds, so it is shown first. Those who have it first will be ashamed. Those who are ashamed will have pure discipline. Those who have pure discipline will have completely pure giving, the order is like this. Shame and faith are complete thoughts. Discipline and giving are

This is the perfection of conduct. The rest is to show its benefits, and this is said in order to make it properly accepted. Here, giving is arranged last of all and is the most inferior, so how is it the path to heaven? The miserly do not go to the world of the gods. And so on. In the abode of the Thirty-Three, in a palace made of empty trees, there lives a son of the gods. The abbot Langda saw him and said, "Friend, I have seen you living here for a long time, have you heard these things? It is possible to appear, and that person who becomes a king is me, and there it is said to be cut off." I said that the venerable and holy youth Guanghu subdued the birth and so on. The Blessed One heard this with his divine ear and spoke this verse. The miserly do not go to the world of the gods. It is said that the miserly have no action to go to the world of the gods. Why? Because that is a child, because those who are miserly and ignorant do not understand the relationship between karma and its results. Therefore, it is said, do not speak of the merits of giving. Not only do they not speak of the merits of giving, but those ignorant people will also slander, how? The difference in the wealth of the three realms lies in wealth, if it is lost, who will not lose? This is how it is explained. The steadfast are those who are virtuous, they rejoice in giving. It is said that the benefits of giving wealth are truly praised. Because before giving, the mind is happy, when giving, the mind is joyful, and after giving, the mind is also satisfied, without regret. These words are used to explain. Therefore, it is because of rejoicing in giving. Those, meaning that those who rejoice will also feel happiness, because Bayasi built a house for giving, possessing wealth and so on, and giving there, although he did not give it himself.
